Anyway, he's going to turn up in the New Year and (gasp!) he's gay.

My impeccable source whispers: "The bosses at EastEnders have seen how well Antony Cotton does as Sean in Corrie. He's become incredibly popular with viewers so they've decided it's time to have a gay character of their own.

"However, he's not going to be as camp as Sean. This guy's going to be very suave and a real charmer."

Producers are currently casting for the part.

EastEnders has had several gay regulars in the past including Colin and Barry, Tony and Simon and Dr Fonseca. But as not all the residents of Walford are known for their broad-mindedness, things should get interesting. Who's he going to have a romance with? Please can it be Phil, please...

I'm glad you added the last paragraph PP, because as I was reading the opening stuff, my mind was saying, 'but they've had gay characters before - and not anything like as camp as Sean'. Colin was a professional man, Tiffany's brother Simon wasn't camp, neither was Dr. Fonsecka. In fact, I don't think they've had a camp character that I can remember - not unless Roly the Poodle and Willy the Pug were an item!!!!!
