Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh has requested a one-year break from the soap.
The actress, who plays Weatherfield favourite Hayley Cropper, has been filming an emotionally draining storyline recently - and insiders have claimed that she wants time away because she is feeling "worn out".
Hesmondhalgh is hoping to spend more time with her husband Ian Kershaw and six-year-old daughter Martha.
A show insider told The Mirror: "Julie approached producers about taking some time off and they were more than happy to agree because she's worked so hard for the show. We had enough time to come up with a superb way to write her out for however long we need to. Viewers will miss her but we can assure them she'll be back."
In a recent episode, transsexual Hayley discovered that she fathered a son twenty years ago. A forthcoming episode will see her being brutally attacked when her son discovers the truth.
Julie's final scenes, which see Hayley heading to Africa to help underprivileged children, will air next month.

The real true love Roy has is that dirty old shopping bag.

I'm sorry, and I know I'm probably in the minority, but I won't be sorry to see her go (if it happens!). I find Roy & Hayley nearly as annoying as Mavis & Derek were. However, if I could choose a character to go it would be Sally Webster - that character has been milked so many times we should re-name her 'Daisy'!

It will be a bit odd Haley not being with Roy as they are more of a double act,we havent really saw Roy with a storyline without Haley, it will be interesting ,a year is a long time though

I'm sure he'll continue to be the same sad sap he's always been. He needs some spicing up or ship him out! Perhaps he should have an affair with Carla Connor or Maria Sutherland!!!!

Lol binge
It says in the orginal post by that lovely amazing Queen Of Hearts.
Hopefully she'll come back just to take Sarah and Bethany with her - get rid of a nice little hat trick of wasters. Go on Hayley, take Sarah with you ... PLEASE!!!

That's absolutely not true - the main ones I don't like are Sarah, Sally and Hayley. I like the more traditional characters like Ken, Deirdre, Rita, Vera and Jack. I also like Eileen and the Grimshaw boys, Liz, Leanne and Janice. I think Chesney is a cracking character and also acted superbly. However, we've hardly seen these since the programme was re-names 'Plattenation Street'.
Sorry, I forgot - Steve McDonald is excellent, I also like Lloyd, Ashley, Michelle and Jamie.
Hardly a huge dislike of the whole cast. I'm looking forward to Jim returning in the New Year too. Liz, Jim and Steve in scenes together again should be brilliant watching.
