My spoodle is very very spoilt and she is 16 months old, she lives inside except for when we go out and then she has the run of the backyard and the double garage. She wimpers (even before we leave the house)to the point I think she will collapse. I have tried food treats, toys, leaving the radio on, but nothing seems to help.

Her problem is you.

By your own admition, you`ve spoilt her.

You`ve got yourself so worked up at leaving her on her own that you are giving off anxiety vibes, which she is picking up on.

You are anxious at leaving her, therby making her anxious at you leaving.

Why do you shut her outside when you go out?

Why not leave her indoors in HER home when you go out?

If you`re going to work and unable to get home to let her out, then shame on you for getting a dog in the first place. Get a neighbour to come round every 3/4 hours to let her out for a wee in the garden.

our dog uses a dogflap sos he can have a wee while we're out.

he's really whiney when his mums not here though its quite annoying. i dont know whether to tell him off or give him attention. i think the problem is his mum treats him like a human child so he doesnt know how to feel confident of independant when shes not here.

he obviously needs training but seeing as hes not my dog its tricky. what am i going to do with him?

Big Grin

What I`m curious to know from all these people who write in and ask for help for their dogs problems, is why do they ask us?

we`re not experts, we don`t know the animals involved, and we could be giving complete rubbish for answers, or answers that could even be dangerous.

Why don`t people with problem dogs go straight to a animal behaviouralist? This expert will meet the animal concerned, and watch how it behaves with and without it`s owners, therby enabling the expert to come up with an individually tailored remedy for the problems.

Sometimes I think that people are trying to get answers on the cheap.

As a vet I once knew said. there`s no such thing as a bad dog, only bad owners.

Invariably the animal behaviouralist tells the owners that THEY have to change they way they treat/react/interact with the dog, which will eventually cure the problems.

We`ve got a cat flap in our back door.

We can home from shopping one day to find the larger of our two dogs wearing a new necklace.

We can only assume that she tried to chase a neighbour`s cat out of the house and got her head partially stuck. And pulled part of the cat flap away with her when she pulled back again.

We did investigate the possibility of having a dog flap put in, but it would have meant the flap would have been big enough to allow a burglar in. So we never went ahead with the idea.
