Batty is a word that has several meanings. Being like a bat; being bonkers; being a sandwich, e.g jam batty or chip batty (or am I thinking of "butty"?); being Nora Batty.
Apparently, it also has something to do with homosexuality, I'm not sure why. Are gays fond of bats or sandwiches?
Stephen K Amos may be claim to be gay now,ah, but I think that's just because he hasn't met Miss Right, yet. There's still time.
W.H. Auden and Tom Robinson, they each took women as partners in later life. Anything is possible.
I read that Bounty Killer is coming to London soon. I think it would be a nice gesture on both their showbiz parts if Stephen K Amos would compere the show or at least introduce Bounty Killer, so that everyone, including the audience, can show that this homophobic nonsense is a thing of the past.

Depends how long ago you first heard use that phrase.
The saying "He bats for the other team" meaning he`s gay, has been in existance for years and years.
******************************** John Smith: So what am I then? Nothing. I`m just a story.
Doctor: You`re an echo. That`s all. A TimeLord is so much more. A sum of knowledge; a code. A shared history. A shared suffering. Only it`s gone now, all of it. Gone forever.
1. Yes, you are thinking of "butty" not "batty", but that's funny so we'll forgive you. 2. To say that people identify as homosexual because they "haven't met Miss Right" is borderline homophobia. I'm sure you didn't mean this, so perhaps you'd like to retract or clarify?

3. I hadn't heard of Bounty Killer before, but having googled him I don't think he would be very keen to be associated with Amos. I found this on his website:
"Bounty Killer has risen to the occasion and stood up for the morals and rights of Jamaicans the world over, by firing off a response to the campaign against his freedom of thought and expression waged by a handful of publicity-seeking queers..."
As to the actual programme, it was distressing to see homophobia so entrenched in the UK's black community, not to mention the truly shocking situation in Jamaica. To see an intelligent, confident gay man like Amos intimidated into concealing his sexuality was horrible.
Dr Casper, I think (or at least hope) that Confused was being ironic so don't take it too seriously
The term 'Batty Man' comes from the Jamaican term 'batty', or 'butt', which would probably be the British equivalent of the word. Hence 'batty man' refers to a gay man with reference to a certain practice using the 'batty'. No further need for explanation, methinks...
