Hi folks. Can anyone help? I have a 1 year old collie who will not give up his ball or stick until he wants to. I've tried enticing him with something better, but he ignores treats and squeaky toys. My strategy at the moment is to ignore him until he does drop it, then throw again, but it would be nice to know how to make him drop when I ask. Thanks
im no collie expert but my bf has one. He is good at doing this, we adopted him from a dogs home.
My suggestion it to keep up with wot you are doing ie if he wont drop his toy pick up another one and turn around and pretend your playing with it in your hands, he should come upto you wondering wot you are doing. keep up with it and it WILL pay off you just have to be patient! good luck

You could take him to obedience classes. There you will be taught how to train your own dog.
Personally, long as the dog is not snarling or growling at you when you go to take the ball or stick off him, I wouldn`t worry about it.
He may not want to play fetch after all.
Dropping an object on command should have been encouraged from the start. Like walking to heel, and sitting when told to.
