is there an age when kids want to stop drinking form the breast?

Of course breast feeding is the most natural thing in the world. A woman has milk to feed her babies don't think you can clas an eight year old as a baby! i also think that the mother in question had a screw loose ............ can you imagine the stick her kids are gonna get at school - especially when it shows the bit about the girl stuffing her bra and yearning for the day that her breasts grow so that she can have breast milk whenever she likes Breast feeding an infant is one thing ... natural and beautiful ....... knowing when to stop and gain a perspective on it is quite another! Shame on that mother - so self indulgent that she needed her kids to be so dependent on her. The mother of twins who weaned at a more natural stage was what should have been highlighted!

by 1 year a child eating a well balanced diet will be getting all the nutrients it needs. mine sort of weaned herself at about ten months no probs. all the mums i hung around with at the time breast fed and the last one to wean was about 2yrs, she was only having a feed at bedtime by then. i get the feeling that women who feed past school age are no longer doing it for the benefit of the child. **************************** Beware of the Loons!!!FAF #40

There is always a benefit for the child. Breastmilk is designed especially for the child and even changes as the child grows to cater for his changing needs. Cows milk is designed for calves. The WHO recommends that children should be breastfed for at least 2 years. Most children, if allowed to breastfeed for as long as they want, will lose interest and stop by themselves between 1 year and about 7, sometimes even earlier than 1. As the programme showed, the girl who was nearly 8, was actually losing the sucking reflex and therefore was being weaned by nature. I don't think it's for us to judge at what age a mother should wean her children. Maybe we should instead ask ourselves why we find it so weird.

I couldn't believe the people who were so against breastfeeding breastfeeding in public, their attidudes absolutly disgusted me.

i never felt uncomfortable feeding in public, i just wore baggy tops and quietly stuffed her up it when she needed. well done to the shops who provide baby feeding areas but it is shameful that it's taboo to the point that we have to be hidden away in a corner. **************************** Beware of the Loons!!!FAF #40

I dont know if it should be done in the open in full view of everyone, but its better than not being done at all

Must just be me that found it more weird hearing the grey haired lawyer man say on national tv that he often enjoyed latching on to his wife's spare boob for a spot of breast milk too.
I don't think anyone disputes that breast feeding is perfectly natural. Personally, I always thought it was for babies and toddlers, not kids at junior school or beyond, or 40+ year old lawyers!

I have nothing against breastfeeding per se but some of these women had strange attitudes to their breasts, their children and their relationships. The German woman's obsession with getting her (weaned) adoptive daughter to breastfeed seemingly against her will was almost creepy, and certainly not in response to anything the child had initiated. And I really hope that the one who let her husband "have a go" was joking. One of the mums whose kids I look after breastfed her daughter for quite a while, but she actually said to me once that it was a private and intimate thing that she didn't understand why people felt the need to do in public.

Sundog, I completely agree with you. That poor child! Having had no contact with her birth mother from 3 days old, in care for all that time, to finally be adopted is great. But to be taken to a strange country with strange language and strange people, then having a strange woman try and force her breast in your face! The child was clearly not interested and I really felt the woman was doing it for her own purpose rather than for the child's benefit. Ewww!

when you've got a hungry, grizzling baby a long way from home, you'll feed anywhere, believe me. but there's no need to make a big show of it. as for men and milk, while feeding i got very possessive about my boobs, over the time sproggy was using them they were 'off limits' besides, they were too uncomfortable for any jiggery pokery at the time. **************************** Beware of the Loons!!!FAF #40

Oh, I agree, If there is a screaming child, I would rather have him quieted by nursing, reather than let him scream the place down, as he is hungry. I was visiting my family in the US, shortly after having my son, and I was driving on the highway. My son was screeching with hunger, so I pulled as far off the road as possible, took him out of the carseat, and sat with him on the passenger side of the car. THen, I hear a police siren behind us, I look over my shoulder, and this Young cop of about 20 comes to the window, which I rolled down, Baby still latched on, I asked "Can I do something for you officer?" The poor lad had the roughest time, as he said, "No, I saw that you were pulled over, and thought you might need some help" I looked at him pleasantly, and smiled "No, I think I have it covered, but thank you for stopping" That was probably something he will talk about forever. LOL! Adults eat in public, whenever the heck they feel like it. I did not make a HUGE deal of doing it out in public, but needs must, and I was CERTAINLY NOT taking my child into a filthy public bathroom to nurse. You don't eat in the toilet, and people should not expect babies to.
