I'll second that, PowderyScalp. This evening's show appeared to be dedicated to entertaining octogenarian women. IMHO, it's the Gt. Yarmouth of holiday resorts.
Why on earth has Ch4 sunk so low as to present us with such utter cringemaking rubbish as the Paul O'Grady show? Talk about dumbing down the channel! I feel really insulted!
When POG's show was on ITV1 I avoided it like the plague, and happily half-watched R & J whilst enjoying my 5 pm cup of tea and bikkies. Now the only alternative to the ghastly POG is the dreary Weakest Link...which I can do without.
I appreciate R & J need a break from their show, and want to do other things, but surely Ch4 could find someone OK to fill the tea-time slot without having to sink so low as employing POG.
It's no worse than the 'Carry On' films, which C4 appear attracted to
For me though, it's the audience -- those raucous females sounding like OAP fishwives. The ITV-type 'Oooooos' and 'Aaaaahs' at POG innuendos . . .
And -- the 'pretend' organ playing!
Still, if it brings in the ad cash to allow them to carry on with the unbeatable evening schedules, and innovation (not quite as visible lately), it's worth it.
GS ~ Bad news if C4 ratings have improved becoz of the POG show....
Roy P ~ I agree, the 'coach-tripper' sounding audience and the faux-organ playing are 2 of the most cringemaking aspects, the 3rd being the dreaded POG himself, and his ghastly camp mannerisms. I did slightly prefer him in his Lily Savage alter ego, though I put stress on the word slightly
