Why couldn't Carol get the numbers target for 471 on Wednesday?

I waited to see if anyone posted about Wednesday's programme. There was a blank moment for sure. I am surprised nobody mentioned it. Here it is:

Marion and Andrew were the contestants. In one of the numbers questions the target was 471. The numbers selected were 25/10/8/8/1/7. I saw how to do it within about 10 seconds.

At the end of the 30 seconds Marion said she had nothing, Andrew said he had 450 and Carol said she got 470. Why was it so difficult?

I checked it with my calculator and I was right with my answer after the 10 seconds. See this:
Add the two 8's = 16 x 25 = 400, then 10 x 7 = 70 + 1 = 71, add these answers together, 471. Voila!

I am never any good with the numbers but this one I saw almost straight away. I was amazed they did not get it, and as for Carol, well, she must have been out with the fairies the night before.

Even dear old Des was not paying due care and attention, as he gets the easy ones too, like me.

your right, not sure how they didnt get it, just how it happens sometimes

I am disappointed in Carol.

Well, Carol certainly made up for it today. Back on track, I'd say.
