why have the male character there at all?
They're just redressing the balance. For years and years women would have been standing behind her man nodding and smiling sweetly. And as with everything else, it probably is the woman that makes the decision to get the computer for the household, so yes they should make it appeal to women.

Just because you disagree, it doesnt make what I've said false. I havent actually seen the advert so I cant comment on the man. But women seemed to be able to rise above the twee and dumb images of them over the decades. I'm sure men will cope. There are plenty of other intelligent male role models on TV for them to look up to anyway. And besides, it sounds amusing.

Thats not what I'm saying. Its refreshing to see women being taken seriously when it comes to technology thats all. And yes it would be better if they were both, jointly asking about the computer. But this one advert is not going to dumb down the male of the species... they're perfectly capable of doing that themselves. It was probably a man that came up with this advert anyway.
