Now Sky have got LOST, they've just about knackered C4 ... Sky charges for More 4, E4, and C4 itself isn't FTA either. What a rip-off. The sooner there's a freeview satellite system the better. I hate Sky ... their 'Breaking News' channel is awful ... endless 5 minute reruns masquerading under the tag of "more to come" and all they do is rerun the same stories endlessly. Puts British broadcasting back years.
If C4 really wanted to keep LOST, then they should have made a higher offer.
C4 didn`t consider the show to be worth the extra money. They claim the significant loss during season 2 in viewers would make shelling out more money to be a waste of money.
As to a "freeview satelite system" isn`t that is what the current "freeview" tv is? In any case, if you care to think about it, a rival satelite system, ie not SKY, wouldn`t have sky 1 channel on it, so you still wouldn`t be able to watch LOST.

>>C4 lost Lost, becasue Sky had more money pure & simple<<
C4 lost because they were UNWILLING to pay more for the rights.
What would have happened if C4 had not met the asking price fr the show, and Sky didn`t want it either? Nobody in this country would have been able to watch the show legally until the DVDs came out. Would the DVD compnay rush to put out the DVD if no TV compnay had wanted the rights?

eh? if no one meet the asking price, the asking price would go down until it was more realastic
No, it wouldn`t.
What would happen is the the buyer would pay the asking price, but the seller would throw in some other show(s) "for free" as a package deal.

think c4 has real probs with recent US shows-they buy them, hype them for a while then the ratings drop and they lose interest/drop 'em eg sopranos, 6ftU, nip/tuck mayb these shows don't deliver the kind of drama/excitement expected.

Or because C4`s target audience are not who these shows are made for.
It seems that C4`s most popular shows are only 3o mins long (ie friends). So most of the audience have short attention spans. Programmes like lost require watching every week because it has an ongoing storyline, rather than standalone episodes.
Oh, and leave us not forget that C4 is the home of braindead TV shows like Big Brother. Is it any wonder that quality shows like Lost don`t last long on such a channel?

Why it's almost as if you're suggesting that they are a commercial broadcasting company, and not my personal entertainment lackys..
Good one!

You should be more specific as to who the "they" are.

"You get what you pay for. If you pay nought, you get nought."
I pay Sky a subscription so that they can buy decent programmes, that I can watch while they are still new.
If I don`t want to pay, then I have to wait until the channel can afford to buy the programmes at a much cheaper rate. That`s IF they buy them at all...... how many people are still waiting for the later series of Angel? SG1? etc??
