Try some different times though, puh-lease?

Okay, I've just been talking to the Powers That Be to find out more about the selection process. Basically, they film three shows a day, and the three players are pre-selected. This means that any guests etc can be alerted, and also allows us to make it possible to fit the player order in with the contestants' schedules. The players of the day don't know they've been selected for that particular day, which is why we use the device of the computer running through the names and the selected contestants are shown to be surprised. Now, it might strike some people that the computer running through the names meant that it was a random selection (I admit I certainly assumed this) but apparently it's never been claimed that the process is just one of chance.

Is there something that can be done about the awful placement of adverts PLEASE! Or else is there somewhere I can complain formally. In ER last night, the first advert came before the programme had properly started. Right after the music! Its getting worse and my blood pressure is rising! I can totally understand why many people are giving up watching the programmes and waiting for the DVDs to come out. That cant be good for C4 surely? Or do they get a cut? However that's not an option with ER seeing as the DVD releases are way behind the series.

C4, Is it true that years ago, there used to be only two advert breaks in shows like ER, but now this has increased to Three in an hour? Ethan.

Ethan.
Once upon a time hour-long programmes did tend to only have two breaks in them (plus the break on the hour between shows). Legislation about this has changed over the years.

" Legislation changed " does this mean that you are legally required to put three ad breaks in? " or do you just do it cause you can? i have to admit, 3 adverts severely spoils my viewing pleasure... Ethan.

Grandslam- I remember it too. I just meant it was a while ago.
Ethan- No, there's no legal minimum limit, but we'd be foolish not to take advantage of commercial opportunities. Obviously there's a balance that needs to be struck between the economics of the situation and making sure we're not putting too many people off, and the situation is constantly under close review.

So what you're saying is that it's okay for Channel 4 to be lazy?

Or if you want an answer in English that fully explains it, see my post in the ER forum here: http://community.channel4.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/90...090086334#7090086334

As long as E4/C4 actually use the US breaks (or rather, some of them because there's more US ones than UK ones) then that's a good start. Ideally, the best places would be about 17, 30 and 47 mins in where there are definite fade-to-blacks, but if they're going to do the first break straight after the main opening credits, then please do that EVERY week, since sometimes they've let it run on a scene until the director/guest cast credits have ended. Either way, what E4 need to do is be CONSISTENT, so I know precisely at which point to hit the mute button so I don't get those complete arses that promote a ripoff directory enquiries service. About the DVDs, stupidly the early seasons are all zoomed in to 16:9 rather than left in their original 4:3, presumably so it matches the rest of the series which only went 16:9 part-way through season 7.

More 4 showed an old episode of Deal or No Deal tonight instead of repeating yesterday's show. Why was this?
Is this going to become a regular thing? Or will all go back to normal next week?

Back to normal next week. Apparently it was to do with the length of the episode which was greater than usual and this was overlooked until it was too late to do anything about it.

You weren't misled- it is due to start in the spring, and as I have just indicated there is not long to wait.
