i have been having argument with my husband regarding out 6 month old puppy. I feel it is unfair to leave him in the house for up to 7 hours or more by himself.

hiya jesw i don't know much about dogs, but the 'how long to leave a dog' problem has been mentioned in the 'me or the dog' thread further down the page.

Well, if possible, don't leave your dog for more than 4 hours, but if you have no choice, then I recommend a good-sized cage. Line it with newspaper and throw in your dog's blanket and you should have a safe den. It will take time to get your dog used to it, and he will make a racket in that time, so warn your neighbours. After that however, he will simply curl up and go to sleep. Give him treats before he is put in so that he knows that it isn't a bad thing.
DO NOT USE THE CAGE AS A FORM OF PUNISHMENT!!!
