Jason Lee Boards Alvin and the Chipmunks

Jason Lee ("My Name Is Earl") will star as David Seville in the CG/live-action hybrid film Alvin and the Chipmunks for Fox 2000 and Fox Animation, reports Variety.

Written by Jon Vitti and to be directed by Tim Hill, the project is based on the 1950s cartoon series about chipmunks Alvin, Simon and Theodore, who lay waste to Seville's surroundings and sing in three-part harmony.

Production starts March 28 for a planned Dec. 14 release date. Bagdasarian Productions' Ross Bagdasarian Jr. and Janice Karman are producing; Karen Rosenfelt and Michele Imperato Stabile executive produce.

DreamWorks Moving Forward on Tintin

Hergé Studios announced today that DreamWorks has confirmed the studio will be exercising their option to produce a series of films based on famed Belgian cartoon series "The Adventures of Tintin."

Dreamworks will now enter into pre-production on the film, which should be in theaters in about two years.

No further information was disclosed regarding the type of film to be produced, live action, animation or computer-generated, or which books will be adapted.

Nick Rodwell of Hergé added that "if movie No. 1 works, we will continue."

DreamWorks' Steven Spielberg first acquired the rights to the character back in 1983 and later re-established the option.
