Idle speculation and gigantic leaps in plausibility anyone? Why not. I watched goggle eyed as a computer simulation showed a brand new car get completely demolished by, eh, clover and grass in the space of five years. The front elevation of a house drops of due to plant infestation...hmmm. Now, I admit I tuned in because I think the planet would on the whole be better off without humans, but I was hoping for something balanced, reasoned and well explained. What I found instead was a slightly limp "shock doc" that I would normally associate with Channel 5. Worse was yet to come however when a shot of a running lion was complimented with the commentary "without humans the world is now beating to the drum of the jungle" or something equally silly whilst bongo music played in the background. I take it Channel 4 knows something we don't, namely that lions and other large predatory animals should be allowed a stint in Britains Got Talent for their quick adaptability to percussion instruments. The piece de resistance however was the revelation that with cities now crumbling, windows missing in buildings and humans nowhere to be seen for 25 years, pigeons would do quite well!! Cue pigeon sitting in a disused office lamp as a nest. Oh please. Is this the best you can do? How much did you pay for the "experts" included in this nonsense? I could have done you a few sketches and had a random stab in the dark at what might happen myself for 50 quid. Tell you what, if you ever do the documentary "When Dogs Go Stark Raving Bonkers" give me a call. I'm working on the shot of a dog chewing a wing mirror.
