This two part story is based on a 1996 Dr Who novel called Human Nature by Paul Cornell.

He`s also written the screen play adaptation for the TV eps.

Everyone who has read the book says the book is brilliant, and that the TV version is looking to be as good as the book.

Obviously there has had to be one or two changes. The book was set in the 7th Doctor`s era, so obviously was about him, and HIS companion of the time (the books had moved on from Ace). The companion became a pupil at the school instead of a maid like Martha.

I`ve tried getting hold of the book, but they are like golddust, and are selling for over £20 on ebay, and upwards of £80 privately on amazon.

John Smith: So what am I then? Nothing. I`m just a story.

Doctor: You`re an echo. That`s all. A TimeLord is so much more. A sum of knowledge; a code. A shared history. A shared suffering. Only it`s gone now, all of it. Gone forever.

I though John Smith was fantastic.

I loved his anguish when he realised he wasn`t real, and his desperation in trying to stay.

Incredible acting by David Tennant.

He had me in tears.

John Smith was great!!!! It was a great epsiode. I liked how they showed the doctor's punishment at the end, and especially the little girl in the mirror Big Grin fantastic!!!

Not sure I liked him asking Joan to come along at the end, what about poor Martha if she'd said yes Frown (not that it was gonna happen anyway LOL)

The Family Of Blood

After last week there was always the fear that this wouldn't live up to expectations and that's all it was, just fear.

The Doctor/John Smith - Again David Tennant stole the episode with such a wonderful performance as poor John saw his entire world crumble around him. It was easy to see why he wasn't keen on becoming The Doctor again and his flashes of what could've been with Joan were sad. As for The Doctor, oh boy talk about getting your own back. What he did to FOB was pretty nasty but they deserved. I wonder how he'll deal (or not) with now knowing how Martha really feels for him.

Martha - Once again the girl was excellent especially with how she better filled in the blanks with John and Joan and her own way of getting people away from TFOB. It's also nice to see her in change of clothing during the present day sequences as well. Freema was pretty gorgeous during those sequences and I loved the way Martha proved to Joan that she was a doctor herself.

Joan - Jessica Hynes might have been the best thing about this two parter if there wasn't so many brilliant things but either way I bought Joan's romance with John Smith more easily than I bought The Doctor's with Reinette and her bitterness towards losing John was nicely done without the actress overdoing it.

Baines/Jenny/Lucy/Clark/Jack Straws - nasty is what nasty does and this lot continued to excel themselves with holding people hostage, murdering and causing some apocalyptic style comets that would've looked great on Angel. Their punishments however were nastier and made this episode even more for me.

Latimer - He proved himself well enough in this episode at first having reservations and then winding The Family up with the watch. The WW1 scenes culminating with Poppy day were a nice touch too. Chronologically, that means we're based in November which will coincide with Saxon's election and the 2007 Christmas special as well. Did eleven months pass between "The Runaway Bride" and "Smith And Jones" as well?

Excellent on all accounts, 10/10

Joan: “The Timelord has such adventures but he could never have a life like that”
John Smith: “But I could”.

Headmaster: “You speak with someone else’s voice, who might that be?”
Jeremy: “We are the family of blood”.

Joan: “Then tell me in this fairytale, who might you be?”
Martha: “Just a friend”.

John Smith (re The Doctor): “What exactly do you do for him, why does he need you?”
Martha: “Because he’s lonely”.

John Smith (re The Doctor): “He won’t love you”
Joan: “If he’s not you, I don’t want him to”.

Jeremy: “We wanted to live forever so The Doctor made sure we did”.

Martha: “If you want I can go …”
The Doctor: “Time to move on”.

Yes, the Doctor was incredibly brutal in his punishment of The Family. He was the "vengeful god" at it`s most chilling.

I wonder if Martha knows exactly how the Doctor punished them? I feel this was one of those moments that Donna (the runaway bride)thought the Doctor should have been stopped from doing.

I think if Joan had agreed to accompany the Doctor, then SHE would become the Doctor`s moral compass. Martha is still too besotted with him to try and prevent him from going too far.

The Doctor being suddenly vindictive -sadistic, even- didn't play well with me at all. That sort of "dark side" simply doesn't gel with the character.

However, there were many good things about this latest two-parter, particularly the Smith:Joan relationship, and Martha confessing her true feelings.

"Blink" looks interesting, and I'm staying away from spoilers so I have really no idea what it's all about...

Ok last night's ep was fab - for the first time in dr Who I shouted at the TV, when the two were in the basement and that was flashing on and off - that was erve racking. I liked how at the end the girl (can't remember her name) in effect gave the doctor the thing that would help her in the past. It had a very Back to the Future type thing for me, especially with that letter, like at the end of Back to the Future 2. I liked how the doctor was not in it much and it was very much normal people driven. Also that the doc and Martha needed help from the lass and the guy themselves, not just helping them, so in a way the roles were reversed.

Previous week's double bill was really good too.

"Never let your work become your life, Kerry. Live a little."

"Come on Bert, it's now or never" - Classic.

Blink

I want to know if mystics are working on this series. Writing this good on a consistent basic is beginning to make me wonder.

Sally - I love her. Carey Mulligan so rocks! This girl was companion material all the way through and Sally got to be flirtatious, frightened, determined, clever, annoyed, resourceful, sympathetic and genuinely charming. Her story was better though out than Elton's from last season and her brief reunion with The Doctor at the end was neat. He was pretty taken by her despite not remembering her saving him and Martha and vice versa.

Kathy/Billy/Larry - Um some intewreting fates we got here. kathy needed little persuading in helping out Sally's Scooby venture even if she did have to pay the price for it in the end. It's interesting when killed and sent to the past that Kathy would name her daughter Sally and Billy would marry a Sally. Larry represented the forum geek pretty well without going overboard. Not sure about him and Sally as a couple but I did like him.

Weeping Angels - Oh come on, they were always gonna be be better than the Abzorbaloff and they nearly managed to outcreep even The Family Of Blood as well. They added a much appreciated Gothic feel to the episode and the statues at the end were effectively creepy too.

The Doctor/Martha - They fought a minor monster at the end when Ten/Rose fought one at the beginning of Love And Monsters. The messages through DVD easter eggs was genius, Martha getting to see the first moon landing four times sounded cool also.

Bottom line, I don't have a bad thing to say about this episode. This was better than Love And Monsters and in terms of Moffat episodes, it's on a par with The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances and beats The Girl In The Fireplace hands down.

Rating: 9/10.

Larry: “We’ve met haven’t we?”
Sally: “It’ll come to you”
Larry (remembering being nude): “Oh my God”.

Sally: “Okay what’s the big question?”
Billy: “Will you have a drink with me?”

Billy (to Sally): “Look at my hands; they’re old man’s hands. How did that happen?”

Sally: “I’ve seen this one before”
The Doctor: “Quite possibly”.

Sally (re The Doctor): “This is impossible”
Larry: “No this is brilliant”.

Larry: “Some things you never find out and that’s okay”
Sally: “No it isn’t”.

The Doctor: “What was your name?”
Sally: “Sally Sparrow”
The Doctor: “Good to meet you Sally Sparrow”.
