This is a continuation (or a fresh start) from a topic discussed in the '4 Docs people!' thread.

We, that is the filmmakers on this forum, are making a documentary about 'filmmakers on this forum'. Everyone is invited, no matter what your take on things or whatever level of experience you have. All you need is an opinion, some honesty and the ability to record yourself.

Attached here is a PDF with a outline brief of the project. It details the list of 6 questions for you to answer on screen, as well as technical specs and deadlines. It's pretty open and we encourage you to have fun!

Our aim is to produce a film that FourDocs will be willing to show on the site. We will also be looking to plug the finished production wherever possible, TV, festivals etc. This could be a great opportunity for new filmmakers, like ourselves to get our work out there.

A rough working idea can be downloaded here . This is only an outline at the moment, and a pretty rough one, sorry for the sound quality, it was recorded on the fly (but perhaps highlights one of the possible pitfalls in choosing to record outside!). It only features one filmmaker (ideally there will be four), but it shows the format we're going for. The emphasis will be on the filmmakers and their answers. All other details can be found in the brief, but questions and views are welcomed on this thread, so please, don't be shy, let yourself be heard!

Just watched your really helpful film, GraphicQuarter - thanks for providing such a clear example. I filmed myself this weekend - man, it's odd being on the other side of the camera...

Come on people, let's have fun!

I'm glad you found it helpful. I know what you mean, it is kinda odd facing the camera, especially when talking! But I found it quite fun once you settle into it. Looking forward to recording for real (in a not so noisy environment!). The threads do seem to be getting attention, but very few posts. Think people are shy?

Well. One month on and nearly 300 views!! Not so many posts though? Only takes a second to register and get in the game, c'mon we won't bite.

I'm also interested to hear peoples views on this. Have you read the breif and decided it wasn't for you, what was it that put you off? We're interested in hearing all view points and are happy to take good suggestions onboard. At the moment we've been focusing on documentary filmmakers, but I'm aware that many of the visitors to this thread have been from other genres. If you would like to be involved, but find the questions set lean to heavily to doc makers, let us know, we'll be quite happy to make some adjustments and broaden the field.

Topped over 500 hits, but only a few posts... what's with that? This is looking more like a blog than a thread!

Not sure if there's much point in doing this, but the links above to the reference files will soon be invalid, as I move servers. The new links therefore are here...

OK, time to call it a day on this one I think, but fear not, I've not given up quite yet, read on...

Filmmakers wanted :: Call for entries :: FREE Submission

Do you make films? Film People is a documentary about filmmakers who've collaborated online to produce an insightful film about why they make films and how they see themselves in this new digital age. Born from an idea set out in a previous film concept named 'Four People' (which never quite got off the mark), this new film broadens the outlook of the idea to include filmmakers of all genres and skillsets. Whether you make films in HD or using a camera phone!

GraphicQuarter is looking for filmmakers to submit film clips of themselves answering the question 'Why do you make the films you make?'. You can point the camera at yourself to do this, you can film it upside down or film the back of your head. If you're an animator you can animate a character giving your answer or work with type to spell it out onscreen, most importantly, you should make your response reflect the type of films you've made or plan to make in the future. Your clip can be as long or short as you want it to be, however long you feel you'd like to answer the question, you can go into detail about how you make films and what you have in the pipeline or you can answer with a few words, the choice is yours.

Submissions should ideally be made on MiniDV, but DVD and QuickTime files (or other digital formats - wmv, cameraphone videos etc.) can also be sent (all tapes and DVDs will be returned). The deadline at this point is open, but remember it's a first come first served policy and the films duration will be capped at 4 minutes, so get in quick to avoid being left out. Entry is FREE, it's just the cost of posting your submission (totally free if you're able to email your clip or provide a link to download from).

It is intended to get the film shown on Sky TV, reputable online outlets and of course film festivals. All included filmmakers will be credited and can choose to have a weblink included to a portfolio of their work or any other site of their choice for further promotion.

The emphasis is on fun and getting yourself noticed in the evergrowing world of filmmaking, so get involved, have a laugh and be part of a unique film.

Visit www.graphicquarter.com/filmpeople for more details on how to submit.

What is this conceit ? "This could be a great opportunity for new filmmakers, like ourselves to get our work out there."

Why do you assume the only film makers on here are 'new' ?
Frankly, most of the 'new film makers' can hardly be called 'film makers' at all judging by the pile of crap the current crop are producing on C4 (and all the remaining channels).
The documentary has sunk to an all time low in Britain and personally, the sooner the older, more experienced brigade wrest control from these 'new film makers', the better.
