At last...I must say, the previous C4 episode, 'The Whole Truth', has been far and away the hardest one to discuss thus far without fear of giving spoilers away for tonight's ep. I couldn't think of much more to say other than 'um'. I just hope tonight's E4 episode doesn't ruin my ability to discuss 2.17 anyway!
From what I read in my TV mag it would seem the same main character is featured.... but the epi is not centered around them too much. So we should be ok *crosses fingers*

I can't wait... heard some amazing stuff about this one!
I'm assuming [and nothing more] that we find out what happens to AL, Sayid and co, and Jack, Locke and HG, so if we do then I can imagine how impossible it's been for you E4ers to discuss this week. I'm usually a Sunday E4er but didn't watch this weeks on Sunday as I hadn't yet seen TWT which I recorded while on my hols, but I can't bear to watch any earlier [i.e. tues E4] because I know that I'll always come so close to giving something away unintentionally!
But I haven't been spoiled one teeny bit about tonight's eppy, making it all the more exciting!!
Only 3hrs 11 mins to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One piece of helpful advice to posters is that if you can record this on a video please do so. Something happens near the end that I guarrantee will be too quick for you to take it all in. You WILL want to rewind and get a second look.
You have been warned!!

Thats very true Murg! Ive heard a few people say that aswell..and i feel the same way..having seen Eppy 17 on E4 last week made it so difficult to differentiate between the two episodes [Eps.16 and 17]!

I agree, it was as if a lot of Ep 16 was setting up Ep 17.
i have heard that there is a discovery about a certain person on the island. i watched all of S2 in previews, and i'm just going to say...prepare to uncover a secret of the island.
what the!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELL did that mean! what a superb episode, but what does it all mean, has the hatch 'won' - did they fail the button experiment - and what does this mean for the henry gale fanclub?! now hes someone else!?!?
I know the whole point of Henry and Locke's predicament was meant to fool us further into thinking he was innocent but he gave the game away in one quote "You have to protect me, no matter what".
He may be one of the others but "Henry Gale" is obviously not the brains of the operation, leaving the wallet on real Henry's corpse!? What an idiot!
Glad to see Locke back to his enigmatic self, and given a mystery of his own again! Who drew the map? And how did they draw it? Somebody obviously had wanted to work something out, perhaps an escape route (calvin?) and these lockdowns must happen frequently to allow such a detailed map to be drawn during such short periods of ultraviolet light.

I loved this episode. So many questions but one major answer - Henry is not what he appears to be. OK here are my thoughts on what happened.
Blast Doors Coming Down I have 2 theories why the blast doors came down; (1) To keep the people in the hatch in the hatch whilst the drop was taken place; or (2) a ploy by the others to get Henry out of that room and on Locks side.
Theory (1) - this theory assumes that either the higher beings do not relise Desmond is gone or that they do and are dropping food for the losties. My main theory is that it is some kind of human social experiment so therefore I believe that the food was dropped off for Desmond because otherwise it is nonsensical to drop the blast doors to keep people in the hatch as 99% of them are on the beach and thus more likely to see a plane; hot air ballon etc.
Theory (2); This theory centres around the notion that the blast doors came down to get Henry out of the room and further build his rapport with Locke. I think that there are people watching that Hatch and they have noticed the tension between Jack and Locke (as Henry did). Consequently, they have seen a portal to inflitrate the losties; get Henry on Lockes side. I believe that "they" (they being the others helping Henry) were reliant on Jack not coming back to the Hatch and I think it is a risk they were willing to take. Although it took a whole ep I suspect the actual real time of the doors going down to them coming back up again was not that long.
Blast Doors on their way up Following on from theory (1) - the blast doors went up because the drop had been made. Boring. So I will continue with theory (2) - I think that Henry made the blast doors go up whilst he was "entering the numbers" again to get on the right side of Locke. I think he was communicating with someone via the computer (i think this is possible and I think it said in the video not to as a scare tactic because they did not want people communicating with either other).
Other points to note - It was good to see Locke and Sawyer playing poker together without it ending into a fist fight. Also, in regards to Henry and his fake ID, it seems that although he is intelligent he has completly underestimated Sayid and Anna.
Vey good theorys there Mrs ferg, all good and plausable stuff!

Well this episode just goes to show that I trust people way to easily. I really believed Henry's story, and I was so upset when I found out he was lying. The trout. I still like the guy, he is still a legend, but I wanted him to be who he said he was.
The problem with the idea that the blast doors come down to keep them in the hatch during the food drop is that it would, as it did, lock them away from the computer, so any button pushing would have to be abandoned...it would force an incident. I think the intention is more to keep them away from that central room during the drop - on hearing the warning, I guess the button pushers are supposed to wait in the computer room. That doesn't actually keep them locked in...they could leave the hatch and watch the food drop if they so wanted. It does keep them away from the ultra-violet light and from the map though....
Ah but aren't we forgetting that the hatch is meant to be a TWO man job. One could stay in the hatch for the button and the other could either be scribbling on the wall (if that kinda thing takes your fancy) or collecting the food.

I agree that it seems more likely the blast doors were to keep people out of the main room. I can't understamd ow they owuld want to lock the button pushers away from the button, but if those invisible ink drawings were an escape route or something, maybe one that Dharma found out about, didn't approve of and therefore killed the artist [possible kelvin], then that is a good enough reason to keep the button pushers out of the main room while the UV light came on.
When that static first came on over the tannoy, with the woman's voice, do you think that that was just a long countdown, or before the countdown she was saying some sort of instruction e.g. get in the computer room!
