Day 41: Boone Dies.
Day 46: Shannon and Sayid have sex.

As we know from 'The Other 48 Days' episode, Boone spoke to Bernard on Day 41, and then died later that night.

After watching the repeat of this episode I realised that Shannon died on Day 48. And I'm guessing that she died early in the morning on Day 48 (as oppose to late at night on Day 48). So this means that the day before was when she, Sayid and Vincent went into the jungle looking for Walt. So this means that the night before (Day 46) is when Shannon and Sayid had sex.

Now my question is... is this realistic?

Personally, I haven't ever lost anyone CLOSE to me, so I haven't really experienced the grieving process yet. But I just find it hard to believe that in like 5 days, you would have the strength (emotionally) to have sex with someone on an island

It may be more realistic if she had other family and friends around her who were also grieving and who were there for her. But it's not like the other Losties cared so much, because they had more things to worry about (like the Others, the Raft, and the Hatch, etc..). So she was alone and she had lost the last person in her life (who she knew before the island) who she loved and who loved her back, and yet she finds it in her to do that with Sayid just a mere 5 days later.

Not to mention the shock of seeing Walt for the first time a few nights before (in MoS,MoF) - surely all this action and stress would be enough to send her straight to sleep every night?!

I do think the death of Boone meant a lot to her but I think Sayid really did mean something to her . Unlike everyone else he didn't think she was a waste of space . So 5 days could've been long enough . Especially on that island . But yes I agree , it does seem very soon !

I think she was still upset but with all the heartache in her life i think she would probably learn to get over things quite quickly.

It was soon after Boone died but she had had a relationship with Sayid for a while before that. The night that Boone died was the night that she told Sayid on their other beach that she wasn't ready to sleep with him (I think she said because of Boone, not too sure of this.)

Isn't there something about stages of grief. She had the anger one (shooting Locke, shouting as Sayid) and possibly the acceptance one (thanks in part to Vincent) so maybe she just wanted to cling onto Sayid, to try and recreate her relationship with Boone. Well, not the type of relationship, but the caring that her and Boone had for each other.
I do think that she cared about Boone.

Personally having lost someone close to me, we all grieve in different ways. There is no set time limit as to how long it takes.

Sayid was the only person who seemed to be there for her. I dont think there is any doubt that she had deep feelings for him, and him her. It possibly was Shannons way of getting the emotional comfort you need after losing someone.

Hmm..didnt she die [if she is dead that is..] on day 47? Your probably right though..

Anyway [good post SDD]..as Mushi said i think that we all grieve differently..everyone has their own way of dealing with things..that said i do question how Shannon can muster both the enthusiasm and emotional zest to make love to anyone a day or two after her brother had died.

I suppose though ive answered my own question because everyone is different.

So in a way it is realistic..sometimes people do things in extreme situations or when they are in a bad place mentally/emotioanlly..and whilst i dont quesiton her love for Sayid, maybe she needed some love..i dont mean in a crude way, what i mean is that maybe she needed someone to show her that they really cared for her and to show her that she'd be ok. I think that they did 'make love' rather than have sex [if you know what i mean?] and so i think she trusted Sayid's intentions and stuff.

No sorry..yes, of course it must have been day 48 that she 'died'..

Interesting point. As has been mentioned, it's very likely that Shannon was turning to Sayid comfort as well as just plain fancying him. She knew she could turn to Sayid and this was confirmed when he built her the tent (which could be seen as a form of declaration). I read somewhere that someone dealt with their grief at a loved one's death by having sex - apparently every time you do this you thumb your nose at death!

Given the level of stress all the losties are under, I'm astonished it took this long for two people to get it on - in real life, I suspect a lot more would be 'comforting' each other.

p.s. particularly as more than a few of them are of above average attractiveness.

Yeah i agree, he was a sourse of comfort to her and the fact that she fancied him made him perfect in her eyes. I suppose the only thing left was for him to tell her that he'd never leave her..and he did. Just a shame about how it all transpired after that really.
