When 'Zeek' aka Beardy was 'talking' to our Losties, it seemed to me as if he was almost 'defensive' towards Dharma/the hatch and the fact that our Losties had made it their new home..he said something like - "when you enter a mans house, do you take your shoes off..put your feet up and eat out of his fridge.." [or words to that effect]. Now does this mean that he [and his set of Others] have accepted Dharma? By that i mean, does he have a good reason for critising the Losties for entering the hatch..could he be supportive of Dharma? was he once a member of Dharma, i wonder?

I know some [myself incl] think that [some] Dharma members [may] have joined certain groups of 'Others' due to being forced 'underground' or ousted [by Hanso?] or something along those lines..

Anyway, so is this [what beardy said about the hatch] a clue to support this theory? or not?..any thoughts?

I'm not too sure he was referring to the hatch, when he was saying about making themselves at home. I assumed he meant that they were on his island, so they should behave by his rules, rather than they'd been in the hatch. I don't feel that any of the others know about the hatch yet or I'd have thought they'd have moved in themselves??

Interesting perspective..i immediately assumed he was making reference to the hatch. I suppose it could be looked at both ways.

I thought he meant the island as well because he said "This is not your island, this is our island"

I agree with you Roco - sorta - we could easily take it to mean the island (most likely imo) or the hatch. I mean the fact that he was (nearly)quoting from that hanslo stuff could be clue to has which side hes on - science or faith/

In the speech Zeek did look pointedly at Locke when he said something along the lines of "do you open doors that don't belong to you/that shouldn't be opened" and this has to almost certainly refer to the hatch. The only other option I can think of would be Eko's drug plane, but that seems more far-fetched.

I'm not sure that they are jealous of the castaways taking Dharma. I think that they would rather scare them away (if they are ex-Dharma, or Dharma experiments themselves.)

Call me unimaginative, but I interpreted Mr. Friendly's "when you enter a man's house" speech as a simple exercise in intimidation. Whatever the castaways have done for the sake of survival, it is obvious that they are prisoners and not guests, and beardy has done his level best to cement that condition (having blown up the raft that represented their only hope of summoning a rescue crew).

Yeah, i think he did AP..this would seem to indicate that he was refering to the hatchi can see how it would refer to the island but it just seems to relevant to the hatch imo. If this is the case and Beardy was an ex-Dharma employee then i wonder if he knows where Desmond is? Maybe he [Beardy] knows the truth behind the button?

Yeah, he did seem intent on scaring them [rather then killing them, for example]..i just wonder why he doesnt want them 'crossing the line' [so to speak]..i mean if they're that good at sneaking around without leaving a trace, why are they so worried? ...maybe it's the guns and Charlie's trigger happy finger? Is that a Hanso quote? ["Since the dawn.."] Maybe it's just me but it also sounds like something Charles Darwin would've said..what with him [Darwin] being a man of science it would've been really insigtful if it was a Darwin quote. imo.

It was a quote used on the Lost Experience / Hanso adverts at the start of season two.

[Cheers] ..Yeah i thought as much. It just sounds like a real-life quote [if you know what i mean].

See the thing is though..didnt Beardo say that "dawn of time" quote which said that man has been curious to advance [or WTTE] and then he gave reference to a real-life quote, which is "curiosity killed the cat". Now this is interesting because with the first quote i would say he was a man of science..but the second quote [about curiosity killing the cat] it suggests that he doesnt believe in science and enlightenment [as it leads to trouble/death]. So perhaps he's a dualist or perhaps he used to be a man of science..hmmm, all very interesting and confusing.

Yeah i suppose if you look at it this way it could be argued that the Losties are stepping on his patch or territory and he doesnt like it. Good 'prisoners' reference because in a way they [perhaps] are all prisoners [of Hanso?] and in real prisons groups have their own turf which they dont like to concede easily [or so 'Prison Break' taught me Razz]..and so i suppose it's a bit like that with the Others/Losties. Although i still suspect that Beardo was making reference to the hatch and used to be a Dharma operative..but again, it depends upon interpretation.

Hmm, good question kitty. Personally my initial thought would be yes..he would've shot her. However the fact that he used her as a bargaining tool makes me think that he knew that this was [perhaps] the only way to get to Jack..to make him concede the guns..which in turn makes me think that Beardo and his clan were themselves intimidated/worried by the losties weapons. So if he had shot Kate he probably realised that all hell would break loose and that Jack and Sawyer [not sure about Locke] would retaliate by shooting holes in him. So maybe he would not have shot her?..though he would've looked a fool and given jack leverage if he had gone against his word had Jack and co not given the guns to him.

Its a good job for him and Jack then that Jack caved in. Obviously if there is a spy he would have been informed about Kate and jack being friends or whatever they are and Jacks insistance on keeping people alive

I have a theory that Kate is a spy, which would explain her following the hunting party and being "kidnapped."

It could also explain why she is always wanting to be involved in everything the group do, from trying to get a signal from the transmitter in the pilot episode to the the excursion to the black rock for the dynamite.

Maybe she is working with the others/island agents in return for her freedom...

I'll go along with those who think that he's referring to the island. But I do think that Beardie knows what Dharma is. He knows the hatch exists I'm sure and the other station too probably as he did say "Do you open the door to rooms you got no business opening?". This makes me think he knows they are there and because he mentioned them that they are important to him.

Regarding the curiosity quotes. Well I think our Losties have been anything but curious and have mostly kept themselves to themselves.

Well it certainly looks as if Beardie knows about Hanso at least cos he quoted the 'From the dawn of time man has been blessed with natural curiosity' which was straight from the Hanso adverts. Since Hanso is involved with Dharma there is a good chance he knows about Dharma as well. How much he knows is another matter. Smile

Yeah he sure seems to know alot about the losties and what makes them tick. It's almost as if he knew of their arrival..there was a debate in another thread that Goodwin may have known when and where the plane was going to crash and was watching from the beach as it happened..and it can be argued that old Beardo knew of the Losties arrival too. Although, granted, he could merely have had a spy in the camp..Ethan perhaps [personally im not sure Ethan was his aid]. Or maybe there is another spy in their midst.maybe a redshirt who hasnt yet been introduced to us yet [unless it's steve, lol Wink]..although im purely speculating here, of course [based upon the fact that he appears to know so much about them]

Hmm that would explain alot..and to be honest the thought did cross my mind in S1. Also it would make her less annoying if she was following them because she's a spy and not because she's a nosey so and so..although it would make her just as morally corrupt.

However something which makes your suggestion credible is the fact that her very first [island] scene in the Pilot is when she mysteriously comes out of the jungle and stumbles upon Jack..now she lookewd mighty shocked and dazed..could she have had an encounter with an 'Other' who gave her a mission? I would tend to think not [although possible!]. I remeber seeing her chair in the background when Walt found the handcuffs, so she obvioulsy landed [or was 'placed' Wink] in the jungle [for a reason]...so whilst the thought of Kate being a spy seems impossible at first...when I think about it..some of the pieces do fit. hmmm..... Ninja ..could this woman fall any lower in my estimation? surely not!? Ninja
