Completely agree with you SP. Rubbish eppy which for the majority repeated old scenes from eppys we've already seen. I feel cheated.

Why have they introduced us to 2 characters and then kill thm off in such a short space of time? They contributed nothing to the story/mystery of lost. They gave us no ansers to any of the outstanding questions. What wasthe point in them? fair enough if this eppy had been in season 1 but not in season 3.

I hope they get burried alive.

Absolutely. They contributed nothing to Lost at all....completely pointless so a huge waste of time all in all.

It waslike watching a catchup eppy. So pointless.

I thought it quite rubbish myself and was only really content with the fact that Charlie came clean to Sun. Nikki and Paulo got buried alive, a horrid thing, and I find I don't much care. If you want me to care much about characters being buried alive, best not to introduce them randomly and pointlessly and then excuse that random pointlessness with in-jokes about having introduced them randomly and pointlessly. And in-jokes about every other fannish quibble ever raised over the course of this programme. The A-team. All that fuss over getting into a hatch. A scene dedicated to a character's using a toilet. The question about how Shannon knew where Jack kept the key to the guns. Lost is very meta sometimes, but in a really irritating way.

I just thought that was a massively self-indulgent episode, full of references of interest only to people who sigh nostalgically at the days when Boone stole all the drinking water and looked for pens among the crash survivors and totally irrelevant to anyone who saw season 1, like, two years ago and doesn't retain the sort of information you don't actually need to retain. Naturally I did quite like looking at the crash site again, but I don't think there was a vast amount of point in revisiting all these events I have on DVD anyway just in order for the writers to tipp-ex out all the little mistakes they left in the first time 'round. Specially seeing as there was no truly significant new light cast on any of the revisited events. Confirmation of why Jack and co were kidnapped but that could've been revealed at any time. And now we know who left a cigarette in the Pearl. Whoop-de-doo.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure Abrams or Lindelhof or Cuse or someone said something along the lines of 'I know you all hate Nikki and Paulo right now, but after their flashback you'll love them'. And I so don't. Why will I love them? Because it transpires they murdered a man for his diamonds and then spent the entire duration of the series caring about nothing but those diamonds and then eventually Nikki poisoned Paulo with a spider? Is that supposed to be making me like people?

So yeah. Buried alive. Nasty business of course. But I still don't much care. It'll be better for the series if everyone continues pretty much not to care. The best thing that episode did was to cut short a couple of very pointless storylines.

3 x 14: Expose

Well what can I say. I’m not sure if that was good or disappointing. Paulo and Nikki buried alive with little way of escape.

I have a few confessions to make. I knew Shannon was coming back during the week Enter 77 was screening but I kind of went quiet about her when I found out. I then discovered Paulo would die and I thought two hopes for the price of one. Then the week before Expose aired I found out Nikki died and I was like “WOHHHH!!!”
I knew it had something to do with spider venom but that was all.

Okay onto the episode. Paulo and Nikki were a mistake – the way they were introduced did not help and the fact they never really mixed with the group was just as bad. I blame the writers for this. Then came Expose, which showed us Paulo and Nikki as con artists. I never saw that coming I have to admit when I first saw Nikki in the stripping gear I thought my guess about her being a hooker was correct but it turns out shes a bad actress in a TV show and conning the TV director so she can get her hands on his diamonds, the little minx! RAZZLE DAZZLE!!!!!!!!!

I have to say this certainly gave Nikki a great edgy character to play with and I would have enjoyed seeing see more flashbacks of her evil heists with her partner - bumbling Paulo (he’s so reminiscent of Boone). He was only with her because he was in love with her - bless. But Nikki was so wonderfully evil its such a shame it ended the way it did. I mean she maybe got what she deserved in the end, ironically death by poison and she really was self centered.

Paulo was just as bad, although he was not as wicked as Nikki, he did lie to keep Nikki from finding the diamonds which led to him keeping the Pearl secret from Jack and the rest of the camp. This is what disappointed me. I mean here we were thinking that Locke had a special connection to the island and finding the hatch was some mysterious force working yet bumbling insignificant Paulo finds the plane and the pearl first. Surely anyone would have told the rest of the group especially when Jack said we need a place to all hide from the others in season 1 finale. Also, he could have prevented the whole scenerio with Michael and saved Ana and Libby so he got what he deserved to. If Paulo and Nikki lived “down the beach” then he could have told them without Nikki knowing. I was good to see how their scenes in season 3 tied into the plot – Paulo’s trip to the dungy was relevant.

I love the way they tried to work out what Nikki’s last words were “Power Lines” LOLL!! “Ply wood” ha ha. Sounded like “paralysed” to me but maybe they knew that they just wanted to bury them LOL

I think in the end Paulo’s obsession with Nikki was his downfall and Nikki’s obsession with the diamonds was her undoing. The acting from Rodrigo was actually quite good – especially the dead body acting!! And the way he tried to warn Nikki about the spiders with his eyes – he was still looking out for her!

It’s always nice to see old characters again and we have almost the whole lot. Shannon, Boone, Artz, Ethan all there and Michael refused to appear apparently. Shannons bitchy lines to Boone were hilarious “good call Boone!” “Kate and her two boyfriends!!!”– however I do feel the actors were a little wasted. Both Maggie and Ian were only free for 2 days as they had films to go off and make so maybe this limited their involvement but shows their enthusiasm about being part of Lost even though they were axed. Maybe Perrineau should be more grateful.

Nikki’s comment to Paulo at the airport about the squabbling Shannon and Boone “I hope we don’t end up like them”. Nikki meant them argueing but in the end we know this was a an injoke that they would end up six foot deep buried with them!

So is this really the end for them? – I think so I mean why bring them back as they were a failure and hated by almost everyone but then we did get possible clues:

Locke to Paulo - “Nothing remains buried on this island”

The Director to Nikki – “You don’t have to stay dead. We can bring you back next season”. Is this a clue? Maybe Vincent will dig them up. He knew they were not dead and is the most intelligent living thing on that island. That says a lot!

Realistically, there is no way anyone would survive having that much sand on top of you. You would suffocate – not a nice way to go when your aware your dying and you can’t even move. I guess rather then continue to flesh the characters, especially Nikki, just as they get interesting they kill them off and I guess this was the easy option as they were hated so much by fans. Picture this – The season 3 finale has Nikki’s hand bursting out of the grave and shouting “diiiiaammmonddss”. We know they love to reinvent movie scenes so you never know!

At least Nikki left us with a catchphrase – RAZZLE DAZZLE!!

The spider’s paralysing venom did make me think of two people:

Charlotte Malkin – was she bitten therefore appeared to look dead in “?” episode?

Christian – was he injected with this venom when drunk in Sydney and transported to the island where he woke up?

This would certainly give a meaning to Nikki and Paulo’s life (and death) on the island.

I have not even mentioned the sub plot yet. Charlie confessing to Sun his involvement in the kidnap attempt last season. I expected Sun to react more then she did but I guess confronting Sawyer at the graveyard put things in prospective – as she said “It would only mean digging another grave”.

I’m tempted to give this episode a 4 but seeing Shannon again, and reliving season 1 events means that I gave to give it a 7 or 8


PS: Did we influence the script? When I met Maggie Grace last year I said to her “if you ever go back, make sure you have a go at Kate”. Well she did Shannon had a go at Kate in the case scene. Also, Roco and I first created the Boone and the pen gag on this very Channel 4 site and they included a comedy scene in the episode. This is OUR influence on Lost and it made it on to the show. We deserve the credit for creating Alice!!!

I think what you mentioned there made it a good show. Seeing season one stuff again, the "live together die alone" speech, Shannon and Boone, Arzt...it was all very cool.
And the Sawyer/Charlie/Sun Subplot was ace, and Sawyer was very, very sweet.

I thought this episode was brilliant, for me it was MILES better than last week but thats probaby just because Locke bores the hell out of me! Id rather have flasbacks on a pair of evil con artists than some idiotic man who got put in a wheel chair and moans all the time!

I think Nikki should of survived it would of been so good if she woke up and watched as they buried Paulo just so she could keep the diamonds!

Um, I really liked this episode.

I wasn't expecting the whole Nikki/Paulo thing, especially when they got buried alive! Freaked me out big time!!

And I loved Charlie confessing to Sun, made me proud

And seeing Shannon/Boone/Arzt/Ethan/old scenes was good aswell.

What I don't get is why Nikki was angry about not having the diamonds if they arn't getting off the island any time soon.

I give this a 7/10.

Well, after further consideration I'd have to lower my rating of this episode.

It's lucky to get a 5 or 6. As I've previously said the only remotely interesting or relevant part was Charlie confessing to Sun. I'm so annoyed to have two pointless characters introduced, one pointless flashback about the pair of them combined with a cheap recap of previous scenes, and then the pair of them to be killed off in such a pointless manner.

My overall word to sum it all up...pointless.

yeah but them two had a huge chance to become alot more interesting! There pre island flashback was far more entertaining than someone like Charlie and for me Locke!

brad that's blasphemy! lol No way was their backstory better than Locke's! It was entertaining, but essentially pretty pointless.

how is it pointless, its just a story about them before the plane crashed. I dont see how theres can be pointless but flashbacks from Locke or Sawyer are not pointless.

There flashbacks would probably be the most entertaining if we had more of them.

No I meant that their episode in general was pretty pointless, since they could have done a whole flashback for them off the island in the real world but instead existing storylines and scenes were used again, instead of having something totally unique for them. I still liked watching their flashback, but it wasn't the best and unlike as has been in other character's flashbacks, it didn't have a huge deal of relevance to the current action and plots that are going on on the island.

I quite enjoyed this episode. Mainly because it showed flashbacks on the island but I was annoyed that the writer decided to "drop" Paublo and Nikki in to ensure we knew that they were their from the start. Anhyhoo......

After watching this ep I could not help thinking that prehapes the writers were saying something to the audience; the ep opens up with nikki seemingly collasping and dying and suddenly a great mystery needs to be solved, clues sort and the badies eliminated. so sawyer, hurly and Jin go off in search of answers. Who killed them? Why? How? In the end it turns out to be no great mystery. Could we the audience be Jin, Hurley and Sawyer, making clues etc out of what may turn out to be nothing? Just a thought, I am hoping this is not the case (and really do not think it is) but I thought I would bring it up for discussion)

Abbott - WOW that is very cool. Yea I think you and Roc just may have influenced it abit, afterall dont mistake coincidence for fate !!
