I think this line is very significant, because the whole show has been basically about fate and destiny.
Locke has always believed that it was fate that brought them to the Island. So could the writers be throwing a little hint to suggest that it was more a coincidence?
I hope not, and I don't really think so. But I think it's a really interesting line.
--------------- <3 Lost. <3 Claire. <3 Charlie&Claire. <3 Kate. <3 Danielle. R.I.P. Ana. R.I.P. Libby. R.I.P. Shannon.... oh yeah.. and Boone too I guess *ahem*. Danielle: (to Claire) I hope your baby is not infected. But, if he is, I hope you know what must be done... Kate: Should I go and get a ruler? Jack: Is this what you were talking about Locke? Is this your destiny? All roads lead here. D.O.L - Spreading the word and promoting Locke's image.. <3 Desperate Housewives <3 Friends <3 C4 & E4! Susan: Oh help! ... Can anybody hear me?! ... Julie?! I need you to try to unlock the door. Oh, what am I saying, she's two! Okay, I need you to unbuckle yourself and try to find a neighbour... but don’t cross the street!! Just tell the neighbour that your mommy’s stuck in a big truck!
Yes , brilliant line ! It also shown that Eko was a very similar character to Locke and he realised this . It was a good line to put in because it reminded us off the fate/destiny theme in Lost , but I don't think it was a hint , just a very significant line .
Hmmmm. I didn't really think that deeply about that line when I heard it, but it may have some sort of significance. I was just concentrating on the great relationship developing between Locke and Eko. Those two are definately the ultimate dynamic duo!!
It was more the fact that Locke said it was a coincidence that caught my attention. Maybe he was testing Mr. Eko to see if they were on the same wavelengths or not. I should think Locke wants someone to believe in the fate thing, as none of the other losties seem to be with him. Now he knows he's got an ally!!

Yes good first point, although i wouldnt say the words "fate" and "coincidence" are the same..certainly not in Locke's mind. Because yes he believes that it was 'fate' that brought him to the island..but he also believes that the whole thing was "designed"..which suggests that he does not [and never did] view it as mere 'luck' or 'coincidence'..but as 'design' or 'science'..as he knows that the whole thing has been planned..hence i would suggest that he knows 'man' is behind it..this is why [imo] he's a man of faith..faith in science that is [and not, say, faith in religion, like Eko, charlie, Sayid, Rose, Desmond and others].
So basically i reckon that when EKo said that line to Locke it sorta hit home with him because it was something that he would [or used to] say [it was almost like Locke looking at a reflection of himself in the mirror]..so i dont think the writers are inferring that Locke is 'starting' to realise it's more than coincidence..because he clearly already knew this..i think it's more the writers illustrating that Locke is so vested in the button that his 'blind faith' has started to make him loose sense of who he was..it was almost as if Eko 'reminded' him of the grand scheme at work here. [thats my opinion].
