While rewatching Exodus part 2, the bit where they're all boarding the plane, I recognised the guy sat in the same row as Sayid, but couldn't place him. He gives Sayid a look. Can anyone help??
Yeah , he eyeballed him because he was from Iraq and didn't feel safe with him on the plane I think . I didn't recognise him though , I think your going crazy .

I think it was a random guy. Sawyer did say something in the first few episodes. I think he was saying how he saw the guy sitting next to Sayid saved Sayid somehow but died himself.
If you recognised the man maybe you've just seen him in something else rather than seen him more than once in Lost?

Are you thinking about the time Shannon was crying over the dead body because he saved her and Boone's life by not allowing them into first class ? I can't recall Sayid saying anything along those lines . . .
Sawyer actually tried to arouse suspicion of Sayid by claiming he survived even though the guy next to him (the one who gave him a dirty look) didnt. As Sayid wasnt around during the initial aftermath of the crash I think his survival is down to him landing in the jungle like Jack and Kate. Nobody said anything about saving his life though.

Found a transcript of the Sawyer/Sayid fight (sorry, it's a bit long)

(Jack has a firm hold on Sawyer as Michael runs over to Sayid to keep him away from Sawyer.)

JACK: Hey, come on! Break it up!
(Sayid is trying to get to Sawyer. Michael pulls Sayid off of Sawyer.)
MICHAEL: That's it! It's over!
JACK: That's it!
SAYID: I'm sick of this Redneck!
SAWYER: You want some more of me, boy?!
SAYID: Tell them! Tell everyone what you told me! Tell them that I crashed the plane! Go on! Tell them I made the plane crash!
SAWYER: If the shoe fits, buddy!
JACK: What is going on?
(Sawyer pulls himself out of Jack's grip.)
SAYID: (angry words)
JACK: What's going on?!
MICHAEL: Look, my kid found these in the jungle.
(Michael pulls the handcuffs out from his pocket. He hands them to Jack.)
SAWYER: And this guy was sitting in the back row of business class the whole flight. Never got up.
(Kate's eyes glance down at the handcuffs.)
SAWYER: Hands folded underneath the blanket.
SAYID: Oh!
SAWYER: And for some reason --I'm just pointing this out -- the guy I saw next to him didn't make it.
SAYID: Thank you so much for observing my behavior.
SAWYER: You don't think I saw them pull you out of line before we boarded?
(Sayid tries to get past Michael. Sawyer gives Jack a tough time keeping him back.)
SAWYER: (shouts to Sayid) Come on, bring it!
I misheard the line 'pull you out of line before we boarded' I thought he said about the man pulling him out of the wreckage.
Oops - I conceed defeat.

Thanks Super Duper Dude, I knew I wasn't going mad . You know what Lost is like though, you see something and try and relate it to find an answer to which there is no question, but I admit defeat and thanks for helping me not to worry any more!!
