i worked for the nhs for 9 years, i left 2 years ago I rang to ask about my pension they said it was frozen and i could not claim it back untill i retired , does anybody know of any loophole i can use to get any of my pension back

Sorry no loop holes, your contributions were made in a tax effcient manner, if and when you choose to retire under current legislation you can take approx 25% of the fund value in a cash lump sum tax free,the remainder must buy an annuity, you do have options in the way your funds are managed though, you can move it around or you can manage it yourself and use the funds to buy further assetts, take advice before so doing there are conditions

You can only claim contributions back (exactly what you put in not what the company has contributed as well) if you have been paying into it for less than two years.

They do this because it is a pension not a savings plan and is therefore only available to you at retirement.

There may be an option where you are working now for your pension fund to be moved to the one you are in now. Not every firm offers this (mine doesn't). I now have 3 pensions from 3 different companies. 8 years contributions and 4 years contributions. They are frozen until my retirement. I may end up with more unless I stay where I am for 25 years or more!
