It's said the three most stressful things in life are getting married, getting divorced and moving house.
But what about if you're cohabiting and split up? We're writing a piece on splitting up and how it affects your finances.
Has this happened to anyone you know? What was their experience of breaking up joint bank accounts, sorting out life insurance, buying a partner out of a mortgage etc? Straightforward or a laborious process? Were lenders and providers sympathetic? Tell us about it here.
Guess what i am in the process of going through a divorce and it is stressful.
The house has not been sold as yet. I have moved out (more than a year ago now) and my husband still lives in the property.
It affected his finances somewhat as he didnt have my income but then he is not good with finaces anyway, he is a nightmare so I am well shot of him!!!
just split with cohabit partner of two years..aghhh nightmare....thank god no joint accounts but paying rent took time to sort out and he wont pay the bills that have come in (from when he was with me) i do expect him to pay his half..he wont..and i dont want to have late payments on water /phone/pc ect
At the time, my mariage break-up was extremely stressful(not the best way to lose weight I've tried), probably fear of the unknown. In hind-sight, it was the best thing that ever happened financially to me. I no longer had a free-loading housewife to support, or her boyfriend for that matter. I dealt with the finances and my Lawyer cut a fantastic deal for me. It's just business after all.
