Hi, are you Marek from the programme? I guess you are not working there any more. As I said, we've met them and they seemed to be very nice, but I can believe your own experience, as you've worked for them. Are you from Salgovce?

We love these programmes, and was also shocked how they turned out, and their true colour shone through, at first I felt sorry for David, as he seemed to be under the thumb, but then it came clear, that was how he had to be....however, what came across was their lack of business/manager experience, even though, they seemed to get on with locals, probably only when their money was involved!!
She seemed to be a total backstabber, in regards to staff, but hey, who knows how hard it is in a different country, culture, trying to run a huge business, I just think they bit off more than they could chew, so to speak, and am interested to see how they are doing now!

Has anyone actually recorded the series as I have only seen the end of it. I would like to see for myself what some of the members refer to, which I believe must have been earlier in the program.

Thank you!!!

Nah sorry new member, d.kline, love the name by the way, and welcome to you, its fun on here, and there are so many topics to chat on! Big Grin
As to recording the programme, sadly we didn't, but even if we had, that would not have been of any help to you, would it!! Roll Eyes Smile
Mind you, I'm sure, and hopeful it will be repeated as we didn't catch the whole series,
sort of caught up in the middle, and then missed the last episode, Frown but got the gist of it, as had watched the beginning 1st series, when they has first bought the chateau!! Roll Eyes

..i had watched every one but the last one Crying, i had set the recorder as i was out for a meal with workmates, one who was leaving, and when i got back, it hadn't recorded it Frown. I was told that the channel4 website showed certain programmes if you had missed them, but sadly not this series... that's how i found you all Wink
I had seen them when they first showed 'A New Life in Slovakia' in the afternoons, i got really hooked with it, so when i saw them advertise how they were now doing, i was so looking forward to see how they were getting on. I must say, i wasn't surprised to hear about them wheeling and dealing, and how they REALLY treated the staff, but it was compelling to watch them, a sort of modern day Faulty Towers, i always thought that most of it was staged for the camera, or re-enacted for it. Surely they hadn't staged the dogs getting slaughtered, that was awful to see, those dogs didn't derserve that, just because the locals had their grieveances with them, anyway, i really hope that they repeat the series, just so that i can see the last one. I did read what happened on it on here, but it's not quite the same Wink

Thanks for your messages and please, let me know once you know how to get the beginning of the series. I don't think it will be repeated.
By the way, I've just checked Channel 4's On Demand site (4OD) and apparently you can 'rent' the last episode for 99p. I assume that you can either watch it online or download and then watch it - for a period of time, of course.

Good luck and keep me posted.

and it takes you to a couple who were PAID to stay there and be in the film.

So me having said all along that it was not staged, which it wasn't for our part in it, it seems the goalposts changed somewhere along the way.

By the way, we got no money at all for this, and it cost us quite a lot, especially when took pig faces out for dinner!!! And could they eat!!!

this programme has just finished airing in New Zealand and after watching you and (now husband) I often wondered what happened if whether or not you went ahead with the wedding in Slovakia, now after reading this forum I have all the goss. I can't believe you were treated that way, and at least you deserve to get your refund/deposit back. Do you know if these people are still operating this business and if so after reading all the replies here, how on earth have they managed to stay in business and get away with so much?
