I was get £17000 per year and have now had a 3% increase.

Should my tax code have changed like it has done? should I now be getting less than I was getting before?

No your tax code shouldn't have changed. Have a word with the wages clerk or manager at work and they should be able to tell you what has happened. You should be taking home more after your rise.

Yes, the is right in tax coe / income tax terms.

Where a pay rise can impact is if you get tax credits for working families or children.

The amount of these goes down as your income goes up.

that really doesnt sound right.. have you had a coding notice? that should explain why the code has changed, but the only thing I can think of is that benefits in kind hav changed too? or maybe you have underpaid previously and they are getting it back now.

definately ring the tax office though. its a lot of money to lose out on

I hope we don't work for the same company, this is exactly what happened to me! 12 months of poverty to go!

Oh poor you, its so horrible. I'm just grateful mines finished just as i buy my house.

doubt its same place though-but possibly same accountants (are you in west mids?) they were totally incomptetant. even when i pointed out I was on wrong tax code (payslip vs coding notice) it took 3 months to get them to sort it out (despite tax office sending them new coding notice 3 times)
good luck withthe k code. I didnt quite get that bad thank god!
