As a taxpayer you should be allowed to enroll to any civil service pension scheme you choose , providing you obey the same payment rules. As we pay for the pensions surely we have the right!. This would obviously case a meltdown of the whole system. Then sense would have to prevail, so it would be fair for ALL WORKERS. WE NEED A CLASS ACTION FOR THIS , I'M SURE WE COULD FIND SEVERAL MILLION PEOPLE. THE OTHER OPTION IS FOR ALL THE NORMAL WORKING/ PENSIONERS TO REFUSE TO PAY MORE ON THEIR TAX BILLS
I take the point, i don't want a civil service pension BUT i would like the same fund condition's that they benifit from i.e. fully protected, guaranteed and inflation linked, my funds of some 35 years standing were decimated in the 2000 market crash even though they were managed by one of the worlds most reputable pension companies, just don't seem fair that some have protection and the rest don't, working, saving, planning for old age is all hit and miss no matter how dilligent your plans are
Agree with vbland and sunny - if you want a cs pension then get a cs job!*
Civil servants get paid less to take account of the Final Salary pension we get. CS secretaries are paid £13k, adverts for secretaries in the private sector get £20k.
*Sadly this is practically impossible due to the job cuts and outsourcing strategies meaning 25% will lose their job (and pension) within the next couple of years.
Is it 'pension' or rather a deferred salary? Seems to me their remuneration package is lower salary with the benefit of good pension benefits.
I can however appreciate why someone would like to know what their pension will be i.e. defined benefits scheme aka Final salary. These also exist in the private sector (I've got one) but are getting as rare as hens teeth, and it seems that employers are stopping them if they can, even when an employee has paid into one for a significant period of time, also considering it to be defered salary, this is the real crime.
