I do look at all the facts, and no they do not have good salarys, Firefighters wages

Now this is the most that a fully trained firefighter can earn now

HM Customs & Excise pay scale

You start at band 2 and you go straight to band 4, 3 is for security and people who actually go to the airports
Now if you are reasonablly competant you can make Band 4 in under two years and at the higher levels of band 4 pay you get £18'000 and then in another 2 you can make band 5 which you can earn up to 22'000 which in 4 years you are paid more than a fully qualified firefighter then in another couple of years you can get to band 7 and earn in excess of 40'000 and you are certainly not in danger day to day sitting behind a desk!

I do know what I am talking about and you obviously don't so be quiet!

In my work, I've had run-in's with HMRC for some big projects in the past and it's a nightmare. We also have to support our members (small businesses) in registering for VAT and so on.

It's long term impact rather depends on the nature of your business. Once you've got your system for recording transactions up and running, it may be straightforward to mantain.

Where it can be beneficial is that you can recover VAT on your (taxable) inputs which would have previously been irrecoverable Smile.

I'd like to thank my forum mates. I picked out one or two pointers from this thread.
I have calculated the inputs and outputs using excel and have now in place a system that I can use over again.
Many thanks Smile

Yes its four years out of date because that was the last pay dispute for the firefighters which they were thrown a bone for and there hasn't been any offers scince! So it is the most up to date one!

If this is the case you will be better off registered for vat. Books are zero rated generally (so you charge none) and you will be able to recover all vat on purchases. So you are likely to receive payments back from Customs
