My house was one of the many flooded by heavy storms in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Many of the houses flooded because of drains unable to cope with the volume of rain water that fell. A number of houses flooded were not built in flood plains and are old terraced housing or basements of 18th or 19th century houses. I am fed up of hearing people go on about houses built on flood planes. (The city of Hull is a flood plain and has been there for centuries!) I am still waiting for my house to be restored after the floods in June 07, and it has not been without a battle with my insurers. I wish , like many, I could flood proof my home but I can't afford the measures needed as I have borrowed upto the hilt because of inflated house prices. I just hope this does not happen again or the goverment helps local councils to deal with these freak events.
