A Sony PVR/DVD RDR-HXD710 makes recording your fav tv programmes a doddle.

But at £499 from Comet it's not cheap? Can you beat this price? We’re specifically looking for the 160 GB hard drive RDR-HXD710 model. There is a cheaper version with a smaller hard drive capacity but we're not looking at this one this time round.

Tell us about it here, and we'll give the best tipster a case of wine courtesy of Virgin Money - a great way to start 2006!

Well done to Karlie 4187 who found a bargain spa day. A case of wine winging its way to you. Cheers!

Shopping tips and more info on this Challenge to be found here.

The same model is even cheaper on Amazon (again with free delivery) at £392.99

Link:http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000BV7ETI/qid%3D1136482666/026-0163079-9812425

and those with a Nectar card can collect 2 nectar points for every £1 spent (http://www.nectar.com/dynamic/estores/retailer/amazon) which means an extra 782 nectar points Cool

To avoid any confusion some models here are RDR-HXD710 and some are RDR-HX710....is there a difference? As the ebay one this is cheapest at the minute is a HX710 and not an HXD710. Some of the others are missing the D also......does this change the model???

You can buy the HX710 model from an international seller on ebay for just over £292 pounds including postage.

The editor is looking for the HXD710 model so any HX710 models don't count because they are a slightly different model

I really should read all the items above second place to amazon is ( i hope ) £399.97 this includes the £7 postage. Although I would ring and ask if they could do it postage free to get my business instead of going to Amazon. So the list price is 392.97

Actual "cheapest price" (not just a free something else!)

Amazon is priced at £392.99 Link:http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000BV7ETI/qid%3D1136482666/026-0163079-9812425

Get £3 off if you are new to Amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/subst/new-visitor-r.../203-2218225-1023926

This would make it £389.99

and yes if you want freebies use your Nectar card and collect 778 nectar points

The cheapest price I have found for the RDR-HXD710 is £379.00 from TotalDigital (http://www.totaldigital.biz), however it is only available from their store in Birmingham. Like many other suppliers they are currently out of stock. Otherwise Amazon with Free P&P is the cheapest at £392.99. Beware that the RDR-HX710 has analog tuner only, no video plus and only standard timer programming.

Flatdeal are selling it at £425
http://www.flatdeal.com/cgi-bin/search.pl

If you buy it with a TV then you get either £100 or £200 cash back

This makes the player £325 or £225

Thanks for all the effort, folks. This one seems to be a harder bargain to find, admittedly. Thanks to Pumpkin for clarifying the model number issue. Just to reiterate, we'll need to have the item in stock and in the UK for the winner's link to be legit. Best deal so far that I can see is the Amazon one first spotted by Salmon but amended well by russellib and Maudette, who both had great ways of saving even more cash, or getting more for your money. Anybody else?
