Im at the end of my tether. I have a credit card debt of £4k, Im disabled and not working and have been out of work for about 5/6 years.
However, i did have a good job before my accident and had a few credit cards. My partner at the time was earning good money and as he didnt have a card, I would let him use mine on the promise he would pay it when the bill comes in.
Now we have split up and I cant afford the monthly repayments, although he is supposed to be giving me this money each month, he always has some excuse and lets me down.

I know I was silly to let him use my card, but at the time we were both earning and I thought we would be together for the duration.

What can I do? Im getting deeper and deeper in debt and its making me ill. Every month there is more interest added. I cant get a loan and if i did i wouldnt be able to pay it back.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also speak to the Citizens Advice Bureau. They can help you contact the credit card companies and they will be able to arrange a payment plan for you - probably stopping the interest until it's paid off.

Remember, however, once you have done this you cannot use the credit cards for any more purchases. If you do, they companies will not look kindly on it and may start to charge interest again or continue as they have been doing.

Have spoken to a nice lady at the national debt line who was very helpful and is sending out an info pack for me.

Queenstomper, I stopped using my credit cards a while ago and dont even carry them with me. Wink
Think i will be able to sort out a payment plan with the company. *Fingers crossed* Wink

Good luck vixxen, it's good to see you take control of this situation. Many others compound their debt by using other cards to cover their payments on the original debt and then end up a lot worse off.

Because you haven't buried your head in the sand I hope you will be able to come to some sort of amicable arrangement with the card provider.

And the other important thing they can do is check that you are getting all the benefits that your are entitled to.

I'm sure you will be fine vixxen, you haven't let things spiral out of control too badly - although to you it is, and I completely understand that. It shouldn't take too long to get yourself back on track, and I am glad that you didn't decide to go to one of those companies for 'loan consolidation', from what I've heard of them they are far too keen to lend more than you need so you can go and 'treat yourself'.
