Obviously you haven't seen many landfills or community waste facilities. Where do you think all this stuff goes? If you think it's all recycled, you're sadly mistaken...that was partly the point of the programme! Roll Eyes

WHAT???????

your nuts, everything on the dump was destined for the landfill!

i was there, it was all rubbish. it was just temporarily diverted to our section of the landfill for 3 weeks, before it carried on its way.

setup???...... no way!!

Some of the stuff shouldn't have been there, eg. tin/drinks cans, plastic bottles etc.

I'm assuming these were not from homes but rather ended up there from public waste bins?

Either that or the council in that area aren't doing enough to recycle.

Despite the programme, there are still idiots who put recyclables in with their rubbish -- in fact, the "ultimate recycling challenge" in episode 4 showed this all too clearly. The problem for councils is that their hands are tied; it's hard enough for them to impose fines, let alone custodial sentences.

This programme certainly opened my eyes. I thought I was pretty good before!! However, I've spent this weekend having a good sort out through my bins and now have boxes set up for all the stuff I can recycle. Took a trip to our local recycling plant to drop some bits off off - boy there's some good gear there!!!

My current computer printer was retrieved from our local recycling dump. The woman that was dropping it off said her husband asked her to get rid of it because it was taking up space and wasn't being used. It's about 2 or 3 years old.

I downloaded the printer driver via the manufacturers web site.

Actually our recycling dump has a special hut for people to put stuff in for re-use. You can go in there and rummage, its all free.
They actually increased the size of the hut recently.

It's a funny thing but towels are one of the things that we supply our customers with. They get used just once and are then disposed off because of the remote chance of residual contamination after use. Besides, our customers couldn't be bothered with laundering them on top of everything else. Untill last year we sold Cotton towels that came from India by the container load and we sold them in packs of 12 towels. Now we sell paper towels instead and I am amazed that they are popular. After all no one takes a paper towel when they go swimming do they.
