I watched all of the episodes of Dumped and having worked in the recycling and waste industry for the past 13 years, I don't think it was very good at all. I appreciate that they had a lot to condense into the allocated time but what did we really get to see?
The main thing that I am annoyed about was Selena's attitude. We kept hearing how she was an absolute wonder in the recycling world and no one was as Enviornmentally Friendly as her but what did they announce last night "she owns a 3.2 litre Jeep which she uses to travel 500 miles per week" what an absolute hypocrite. She didn't even have the guts to look guilty about the fact, was just shocked that some people who did not do as much to help recycling as her had a lower carbon footprint - I AM NOT SURPRISED!! Get with it Selena, if you really want to help, get rid of the gas guzzling jeep.
Hi, in fairness, Selena had been misled about LPG she had been told that because it was LPG it wasnt giving out any carbon. i suspect the person that fitted it, told her this. if she had known she would never have driven the vehicle, she would have bought something smaller.
Thank you for clearing that up for me. I did enjoy the program being in the industry and from day one I admired Selena's drive but the thought of her driving that car just outraged me. Hopefully she will now be doing something about it.
I have seen some of your other posts and it seems a shame that we didn't get to see more of what you did, how you utilised some of the waste and a bit more on what you all experienced. I was quite surprised that it was such a short series and prior to starting thought that it would be for longer than four episodes.
This Carbon Footprint rubbish is typical of the eco fanatics. The programme was supposed to be about recycling and the waste of the worlds resources. The carbon footprint is about man made climate change and how much greenhouse gas we are supposedly putting into the atmosphere. These are two separate subjects and I am getting fedd up with one being used as an indicator for the other. Yes we are using up the worlds resources too fast and it is unsustainable, but whether the burning of fossil fuels is changing our climate is still up for debate.

I Agree with pete.. I didnt like all the carbon footprint rubbish either. I am all for the planet being more green and recycling but using all this recent obsession about global warming to scare people into recycling is lying to them.
People are starting to believe carbon is a pollutant and that recycling can help fight it but recycling cant and never will.
Separate, yet connected in the way that everything we do has a knock on affect elsewhere.
Making new glass bottles out of recycled glass uses less energy than making bottles out of new glass (this includes the energy used by the transportation for both methods) so that less CO2 is produced in the process. The same is true with paper, plastics and metals.
Recycling also helps us economically because we are keeping resources within the country and not having to buy in raw materials from abroad. As countries like China and India become increasingly more industrialised, the demand for raw materials increases forcing up the price of those materials. This makes recycling even more beneficial.
Of course we should all recycle so that we don't contaminate the environment, but recycling has many other benefits that must also not be ignored.

Mislead? she did not stike me as an idiot. How can you think that burning a fossil fuel has no emissions? Come on! What is next, Gas central heating is good for the environment?
Why is so much put about on the subject of carbon foot prints in the media like it's a trendy new thing? Other problems such as nitrous oxide...
"This is getting serious. Climate change could cause forests in Europe to spew out more and more nitrous oxide, aka laughing gas, a potent contributor to global warming.
As a greenhouse gas, N2O is 296 times as powerful as carbon dioxide and accounts for 6 per cent of the greenhouse effect" From New Scientist - Sept 07

yes but...
If i was going to pay a lot of money to turn a car green i would have done my research.

Because CO2 in particular is something we have more control of and most individuals and organisations can do something to reduce CO2 emissions directly. It is a more fundamental part of the carbon cycle.
Some people know Methane is a green house gas, but don't know it also contains carbon. Just because it doesn't have carbon in the name, they assume it is an element or something.

Carbon is produced as a product of burning XYZ as a fuel?
I find the idea of carbon offsetting a bit odd, you can pollute but you must pay for it, what's next Murder offsetting? You can gun down your neighbour but must compensate the family financially. Prevention is better than a cure surely.
I read that Nitrous Oxide is now being added to Diesel to make it burn better but that makes it much worse for the environment...
Round and round it goes but ignorance is no excuse.

Well one of the primary issues is where the carbon originates from. eg. Ancient fossil fuel sources or recent sources that are already in the eco system.
Carbon offsetting by planting trees isn't to good, once you have the 'ancient' carbon in the system it's not going to easily go away.
On the issue of nitrous oxide being added to diesel, i haven't looked into that. But adding it doesn't in itself mean there is a problem. After all nitrogen and oxygen on their own are not a problem. I would like to find out more about this use. However if it is 'safe' to use it like this, there is still the issue of making the stuff.
