One of our local landfill sites generates some electricity from the methane.

And on the subject of lighting farts, i think it is in Vietnam where families harvest their pig and human waste to produce methane for cooking and heating.

Builders out there are making loads of money doing the work.

I know a bloke down my local pub who was able to produce hot air from both ends. Didn't produce much in the way of electricity, but the ladies seem to like it.

How close does one have to hold the match?

Recycling farts sounds like my ideas of fun.

I wonder if Rob could turn that into a tv series?

I am a bit curious about Trish - what parts of you are saggy?

That's the great thing about a moniker HotFor - you can give a completely false impression of yourself

Are you a bit bi yourself girl?

Hmmm does that mean you are far from saggy Trish?

To be honest I only go for Gingers, hence my little crush on Rob.

Anyway back to the environment please.

Apparently nappies are an eco nightmare. Is the same true of tampons? What a killer. Four days of hell every month and then five thousand years to biodegrade.

Is burning things a bad idea? Perhaps I'll start a new thread on bonfires.

I am still waiting for Rob to join in these forums (fora?). Perhaps he is shy.

Thanks for the interest in the forum - lively if what somewhat unexpected line of thought. Re tampons. (although dont confess to be an expert) Traditional tampons that are currently on the market are made from Rayon-cotton. Rayon is reconstituted wood pulp and its production involves the use of many chemicals. The traditional cotton used in tampons has been grown using as many as 35 different pesticides, herbicides and fungicides after which the cotton is washed and bleached. this manufacturing process has a certain level of harmful chemical usage, and after years of continued use, some argue that the residue from these chemicals adds considerably to the body's system. Not only is it bad for the environment (deforestation, soil erosion, and toxic waste but also the residual chemicals are hazardous to the consumer. One alternative might be Eco Yarn Organic tampons which are made from Pure Certified Organic Cotton (no fungicides, herbicides and pesticides are used in their production). The organic cotton is washed in pure natural soaps to wash out natural waxes, to whiten and give absorbency to the tampon. The cotton is then processed into tampons... Not sure on the ecological benefits of reusable Menstrual cups but this might also be an option to reduce the volume of waste created...

incineration - sorry Gov prefers energy from waste (Efw) is an option, but the focus has to be on reduction of the material and energy intensive processes throughout the lifecycle.
incineration is least best option over landfill. You can recover about 8KWh of energy per Kg of mixed plastic waste so better than consigning to hole in ground.
