they just said this dump was next to a working landfill, so this one looks like a small one for the show, but right next to a working one.

Show looks interesting so far, I could not do this !

It isn't a dump that the public can use.

When must people go to a council dump you throw your rubbish in big containers, then these containers are taken to this place.

I used to be a dustman many moons ago, so I have seen these kinds of place. One thing that will be interesting is how they deal with the smell. It isn't over-powering, but having to put up with for 3 weeks is going to be interesting. Also the flies.

I would reckon it is a specially made dump. There could be needles, dead animals and who knows what there. There must be some sort of health and safety issues. We cannot even root round anymore on our dump site. Somehow, the council workers can take what they want.

I think it might have been specially made. As I said I used to be a dustman and if we wanted overtime we went out on the roadsweepers and vans that cleaned the roads and litter bins and that is also the doggie bins. They all go to the same place. Household rubbish, dog muck, roadkill (we used to have to clear that up as well), Needles if we found these we had to put them in a special box. But I would guess we only would find 2% of needles used in our town. The rest were hidden in bin bags or the wheelie bins. House clearences we did, and if you have seen Life of Grime you can imagation what some houses are like. I could tell you a few stories. I worked with guys who had been doing it for 20 years and they wasn't much they haven't seen.

But it does open your eyes being a dustman and what people throw away. Imagation the job and how bad you think it is, then times it by two. Because that was what it was like.

It's not just the flies, it is the seagulls as well. They will fly at you to protect what they have found.

I used to work as a Drainage Surveyor (CCTV) and usually went out clearing the drains and also house clearances. Yes, you do get used to the smell. At first I used to wretch, when I saw a manhole full of "mud" I got used to it. It wasn't mud, when the crust was broken a golden brown colour was staring at me, it was not mud. The smell was that bad I managed to empty my recently ate dinner behind a portakabin. After that, anything that was given to me was easy. Excellent job , horrible management though.

Personally, I would love to be one of the contestants. I also blame the manufacturers and also the packaging of the goods.

Unless we all pull together we will get into a situation where it will be impossible to get out of.

Regards

Nick
