Sorry, is it only me who found this program infuriating. Sure it outlined the seriousness of the cause but i cannot think of a less likable group of people to promote it.
I've never heard so much complaining ever in my life and the whole thing about Electricity is ironic as somthing like 4 million people have just used loads of eletric watching the program itself, and i bet about 0.1% actually change the way they live because of it. The truth of the matter is that no matter how much people change we simply do not have the funding as People to make a huge diffrence that should rest more on the govenments shoulders.
Furthermore. I thought television was for escapism not to have opinions rammed down our throats, i am aware of the seriousness of the problem i just think that this is the wrong way to have dealt with the situation
about 10 mins of the whole program was actually dedicated to the issue the rest was about conflicts within a social group
the only thing proven in my view is that people can live on a dump.

TV is for whatever people want to use it for. If it is OK to put non-escapist shows like Top Gear and the Gadget Show on TV, then i don't see why a show like this is a problem. In any case the show isn't about opinions, but about real facts and issues.

Although i was very negative at the start, i think it is actually a good show and i'm impressed by the way the people on it finally got the message.
Some tv is for escapism. It is also a powerful education medium. If you don't like it you can switch elsewhere. IMO we need more programmes on themes like this to raise awareness and also empower those who already are doing their best for the environment.
My local authority is approaching it with zeal. My weekly rubbish is now only a small black bag of packages and plastic. Papers, compost, garden, bottles are all collected separately.

Last i checked a gadget show and Top Gear is Escapist t.v i get your point it can be used for whatever but dont you think people hear enough about this all the time on the news, newspapers ect to have to deal with it when they get off work and want to relax
whether or not it is escapist tv is beside the point I just think this Program was big brother on a dump. Not enough emphasis on the actual cause

There were echoes of "Big Brother" in some edits which were a distraction from the main issue. I felt there was a lot more programme there which we did not see, and wanted to see. If some volunteers had expert help I would have liked to see it happen. The edits tried to show they had limited contact with the world outside but they would never have been behaving that way if that was the case.

I agree. There was an attempt at trying to focus on the relationship problems which almost overshadowed the aim of the programme. There really wasn't enough TV time to do that.
No there really was enough time this program has had 4 hours since sunday so why not cut in some video footage of the effects on the enviroment so the points are clearer.
The whole show in my opinon was farse and definatly not groundbreaking as it outlined the same points we hear every day on the news
I thought it was great. I love to see people making something out of bits and bobs. Had they all pulled together sooner, they could have had a better shelter, although the one they made was good. I liked the sauna, the makeshift toilet and the solar powered shower.

I also agree. I would like to have seen more about the actual environmental issues instead of watching the bickering for to gain fame. In saying that, most of them did very well.
I liked the show, and would've liked to have taken part in it. It did show the difference of opinions between people and their perception of what can and cannot be done to combat wastage.
It also showed that people who think they are doing a good job of recycling are , in fact, not doing as much as what they think.
I even keep packaging, and plastic re-sealable bags, from work so I can use them again.
The attitudes of people nowadays are totally different from years ago. The majority of people don't care, live for today and let other people do their bit. It's a sad sorry state of affairs that will only get worse no matter how bad it gets. People will deal with it, they will have no option.
The rich won't recycle, they will just discard anything and buy a new one, the poorer people have nothing of their own to re-cycle, so re-cycle the rich peoples stuff. All back down to money in the end. It is definately the root of all evil.
the way they live because of it. The truth of the matter is that no matter how much people change we simply do not have the funding as People to make a huge diffrence that should rest more on the govenments shoulders.
And its the legal job of the government to do as the country wants, so maybe your nor complaining in the right place.

Thats part of the problem, people work so many hours they don't have time to think about the consequences of what they do. And as far as having to much of this sort of thing, well the fact that we have such a big problem means that we probably don't have enough of this sort of TV. Also since things are going to get worse before they get better, we can expect more of this stuff.

Throughout the programme they had plenty of info about the problem.

You don't see people actually living on a landfill in the news unless it is in another country.
I haven't seen any news programme showing the detail of what goes into a landfill. People are disconnected from the process and this show went a long way to make a connection.
Maybe there should be a scheme where everyone in their life time has to spend three weeks on a rubbish dump. Hopefully some manufacturers and product designers watched the show and will change their lives.
Person watches a programme, then goes out of his or her way to rubbish it (rubbish, get it?) on a Forum. What's up. Remote healed up. Legs nailed to the floor? Why watch it?
I thought it was good. Disappointed in four days only. And the edit was pretty good to make such a grotesque story entertaining and informative.
And out of it all Darren, must be feeling like the biggest loser on the planet. Rightly so.
Did no one else find it suspicious that they 'found' about 10 brand new untreated fence panels just in time to build their shelter. Now maybe I have an unusually green circle of friends but I dont know anyone that would throw away that quantity of unused fence panels. In fact all the wood they were using looks new. The same with bark chippings. And if they were supposedly living on a landfill why were they all so disgusted about the household waste. Also, all the stuff they were using was intact whereas I thought the bin lorry squashed it all up. I missed the first five minutes of the first show so maybe i didnt hear the bit where it said they were going to get given a load of stuff. Also, I found the advert for this programme quite misleading - i felt it suggested that they were actually going to be eating food they found on the landfill rather than just physically eating food there that had been shipped in from the the nearest tesco. these points completely overshadowed any environmental message for me
Don't think eating the content of a wheelie bin would have contributed much to the programme. They would have all been shipped off with ecoli botulism and salmanella poisoning.

firstly, what you assumed to be fence panels, were in fact about 3 old sheds that had been thrown out. there was maybe 1 or two old fence panels that we utilized for the eating area.
the program wasnt about trying to attract death by eating bad food. sorry if you feel we didnt put our lives at risk enough for your entertainment, thats not what the show was about.
watch the program again from beginning to end. you will note, that every day we received fresh loads of rubbish. this included ALL rubbish, not just household waste. this means, WEEE (electrical), garden, mechanical, commercial, builders...etc..etc...
the timber that was there was all warped and cracked, and had been thrown out by a builders merchant.
i can assure you it was all waste!
we built sooo much that wasnt shown.
watch it again, look for,---- the double sink washing up area. ----the hotplate, with oven and chimney! the electricity, that i had wired into the camp from the wind turbine, that was used to put up a light, and power the fridge!
on another note, remember that WE the people took part, didn't have anything to do with the editing of the show. things you didnt get to see were--- All of us singing round the campfire. Dump Golf. Dump football. The Dump water fight. The Dump yoga session. The Dump improv night.
there were so many great moments, and moments of true compassion between the dumpees.
i guess its true, the entire program is in the edit. but dont get me wrong.....it was a really harsh experience, watching it at home really doesn't impress on you how, hot, cold, wet, smelly, and utterly uncomfortable it truely was!

Its a shame jason that you don't give people a full picture, Jason built these things, but there was so much more we did; Garden Pizza Oven Golfing Range Assualt course Cycle Generator for electricity Baking oven for cakes the new improved shelter had living and sleeping areas complete with shelves and bunk beds and table- it even had a carpet!
We did loads of things, which i personally feel it is a shame has been missed out because they decided to make a short series and put unessesary emphasis on us not getting along!
Having said this, it needed to be a program which was entertaining to watch and put a message accross. By showing the social side it attracts reality viewers, and still conveying the message of green issues- i think it is groundbreaking in a way that all environmental programs i have seen so far before dumped have appealed to people with a more academic background, and have been an effort to watch for people who hate being lectured to!
I personally like the series (appart from ep3), however i feel sadened that it wasnt a week long series!
