"Simon Best, chairman of the BioIndustry Association (BIA), the UK biotechnology trade association, said he was concerned that the MHRA decision to investigate trials of monoclonal antibodies in general may be “broader than it needs to be.” The problem with the TGN1412 trial was not the monoclonal antibody, Best argued, but its target, CD28, a regulator of the immune system. Even if the drug had been a classic pharmaceutical, the result would likely have been the same, he told The Scientist. "
You see it's nothing to do with the drugs. It's the patients (or rather healthy young men) and their CD28 ....
It's true that all drugs which affect the immune system have the potential to cause a severe allergic/autoimmune reaction. Lots of patients who are have been on and suffered side effects from prescribed drugs which have been passed as fit to be prescribed can tell you that. But this quote really takes the biscuit as regards attempted spin.
BTW the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA - formerly the Medicines Control Agency) has its own division of the police force within its ranks. But it seems that an outside police force has been investigating. Are drug companies/testing companies really allowed to pay any more than expenses? It seems common knowledge that relatively big sums of money were passing hands. What were the MHRA doing about that?
Would I take part in a clinical trial for money? Well, my answer would be another question. Which authority is allowing people to take part in drug trials for money? Is it allowed? Patricia Hewitt has been remarkably quiet about all this.
I would still like to know which authority allows people to literally sell their healthy bodies for these clinical trials and allows them to get something more than expenses. Are they then contracted employees? Or what?
I would not take part in a drug trial for money. My own health is much more important than money. If I was really desperate for money there must be safer and healthier ways to obtain some. No amount of money is worth risking your health for.

what about the health of those suffering from disease ?
what about the benefits they'll receive from new drugs for currently untreatable disease ?
You can't start clinical trials in unhealthy people, you need to start in healthy volunteers to establish tolerance levels before progressing into diseased individuals to generate your proof of concept.
Fear enough you need healthy individuals and that is what I am and that is what I would like to be thank you very much. There is such a thing as freedom of choice

ok, so you agree that someone has to do it, just not you.
Let's hope you never get sick and rely on the development of a new drug to save your life.
Well we all have to die sometime. If there is no cure, there is nothing you or anyone can do about it unless you can work miracles malkie. Are you a worker of miracles malkie. Please enlighten me

Not all illness are fatal - I'm specifically referring to suffering, and these unlucky people who have a terrible quality of life.
You are basically saying "stuff them" because it doesn't directly effect you.
As I stated above, let's hope that you, or someone you love, doesn't rely on medical research.

What sort of retarded, nonsense comment is that?
I wouldn't refer to the work of pharmaceutical companies as "miracles", rather the application of science to develop new and improved medications for diseases for which there is no current medication.
Many things which were untreatable 50 years ago are now well managed with modern medicine. These aren't "miracles", just breakthroughs.
You've got me all wrong. But hey, that's the story of my life. I feel so misunderstood but that's my problem and I'm dealing with it. I'll never agree with you on this malkie whatever you come up with. You come across as a bitter person. Has life dealt you some hard knocks??? Please don't take it out on me or anyone else for that matter. DEAL with it malkie. Take responsibility for your own life and stop blaming everything and everyone else. By the way I applaud the research that the pharmaceutical companies are doing in their fight to find new drugs that can cure serious illnesses.I'm just not prepared to put my life on the line in order to help them. Let's agree to disagree malkie.

What are you basing this retarded assumption on? The fact that I just kicked you ass, and exposed you as a heartless person who is only concerned about themself, and stuff everyone else ?
FYI I have a fantastic life. I've got two degrees, an excellent job, an amazing house and a wonderful partner.
The fact that you resorting to this sort of terrible baiting reflects 100% on yourself. It reveals to me that you feel that *your* life is a mess and out of control.

What do you think I do for a career ? I've dedicated my life to making people feel better, do more, and live longer.
What have you ever achieved ?

That's great that you've got 2 degrees, an excellant job,an amazing house and a wonderful partner. You don't sound happy malkie, you're just trying to convince yourself that you are but you're not. I would not take part in a clinical drug trials for money. Let's agree to disagree malkie.

The rest of your post wasn't worth answering. All of the personal comments you made about me were simply not true. I will not be taking part in clinical drug trials for money. It was good to disagree with you malkie, you helped me to strengthen my resolve.

lol, so you are a top notch pyschologist too. making assumptions about people based on aa couple of posts.
I'm perfectly happy, I'm just tired of wasters like you clogging up society.
Why did you ignore the rest of my post, when I asked you what you've achieved ?
Just looks like you are only here to take cheap shots at people.
