We should be prepared to bring back Nation Service to stem the tide of yob culture. Boot camp is an Americanisn and does not address the whole problem. Many of these youths who find themselves in bother and create havoc are not necessarily bad but more misguided and have lost their way. To carry out 2 to 4 years military service taking in the common military silibus then going on to learning a trade or profession within the British Army. Surely this will get young people out of prison who should not be there.
as do i with yob culture we need to look primarily at the beginnings of life it is where we learn moral codes/conducts/ value and belief systems without these in place we will have little respect for anything else. when looking at yobs & yob culture what is the 1 thing that almost all delinquents have in common????
poor discipline in the home... single parent families whilst not disputing that all single parent families are bad i am from one myself (i have had regular contact with my father & he has handed out the punishments no allowance etc as i was growing up) people who do not have this contact often 'go off the rails'
a government initiative 'respect agenda' has failed to teach young children respect and such forth this needs to be addressed in the home if parents can not control their children who can?? the government should hold no responsibility over this ever increasing culture nor should schools or education i believe that it is and always will be the faulty of the parents?? we need to teach people to be parents ( how sad is that) but it is beacuse kids are becoming parents & they are to young not mature enough and unable to cope with the concept of parenthood (often resulting in single parent families i should know)
after an incident in my town center where i got assaulted and my bag was grabbed and almost stolen i think that national service might be good.
But just for targeted individuals, not for the whole young population.
Either that or give them to foxhunters as something to chase...
:P
