iv bn watching season 1 on dvd recently and watched the ep wer the boar keeps attackin sawyer. The jungle keeps whispering "it'll come back around" and then later we see the man that sawyer killed say it in a flashback. Wot was it all abt? did we ever get an answer to the whispers?
And howcum if the others are normal people living in normal houses they make the jungle whisper??????

the others don't necessarily have to be controlling the whispers.

perhaps they are just cohabiting with the island too and its A.I.

U don't think the whispers r of dead ppl, i mean 1 of them sounds like Boone, "Meet me on the other side, sis" and they keep saying stuff like "He's already seen too much," "Just let him go", so maybe it is the dead ppl of Danielle's troupe, like haunting them or something.

At first i was thinking that the Others can become invisible when i first saw "Live Together, Die Alone" Part 2, when the Others attacked right after the whispers. I thought they had gone invisible then shot Jack, Kate and Sawyer.

The Whispers seem to be part of the wider Island mystery, which includes Jacob, and particularly Richard. When Ben first met Richard, as a boy, and saw his mother, they were talking to his mother "Tell him you're his mother" "Tell him to be patient". We've also definitely heard Boone in the Whispers, so it would appear that they are the dead. All very confusing.

I particually like this theory on lost pedia:

The whispers are echoes of different versions of the same events in parallel worlds: The island is a nexis where all these worlds meet.

Or echoes of the same event looping over again? If someone dies within the loop, then the next time it plays, their 'residue' (for want of a better word) remains within the loop, like dust in a record groove. That way, you can sometimes hear them (the Whispers) and occassionally see them (Boone in Locke's dream, Walt, Christian, Ben's mum?).
