They are not real people, only figments of JJ Abrams imagination. The end of season 7 will have them all try to confront Abrams in order to become "real"
Similar plot devices have been used in the book"Sophie's World",the Steven King Dark Tower series, and the League of Gentlemen film.
It would fit in with the post-modern nature of the lost experience.

LOVED the dark tower series and there are reportedly links to The Stand (see "Project Blue" in Lostpedia), also by Stephen King according to JJ Abrams. Apparently he is a bit of a King fan.
I could see links in some ways to the Dark Tower series POSSIBLY in that there may be other "whens" with the island being like one of the doors to other "whens" or something but thats a very different concept to that which you are talking about, there was a small part in book 6 or 7 (cant think now) where Roland wasnt sure if they were all living in Kings imagination and Jake sacrificed himself to save Kings life (much to Rolands disgust, he had no time for King whatsoever) I dont remember how this panned out as in whether it was proven that they only existed because he wrote them or whether he had some kind of psychic link. I will have to dig the books out again. Just because there were other books written by other people like "Charlie the choo choo" did you happen to catch the name of the author of that book by the way? It was Richard Bacchmans wifes name, and as any fan of King knows Richard Bacchman is Stephen Kings other name, his wife Tabitha King was Claudia, Bacchmans wife. I forget what the name means now, but it has relevance to the story if I remember rightly. You know the more Im thinking on this, the more I think that possibly you could be right though I will be disgustingly dissapointed at the blatant plagiarism if this is what is behind the whole thing (oh bugger, Ive just had another thought, they wanted to find the radio tower, like Rolands Ka-tet were trying to find "The Tower" in the field of roses
I wonder if initially they wanated to make a series of DT, I know how against that idea King is so maybe he allowed a bit of theftery of his plot to create this. I do hope not though, it wont work in the same way
Thank you. Namaste. Good Luck.

NOOO!! The Stand isnt about the end of the world, its about the end of civilisation maybe and the recreation of it that follows. In it there are the good people and bad people who set up on opposite sides. The bads being in the Nevada dessert, the goods settling in Boulder Colorado. It depicts the struggle between good and evil in the absence of authority to control peoples actions. In that way its quite similar to books like Lord of the Flies. Except noone save them at the end of The Stand, they ahve to rebuild civilisation themselves
Thank you. Namaste. Good Luck.

He didnt change it because he didnt know where it was going if I remember his foreward rightly, I have it on the bookshelf, might dig it out and have a look. Im pretty sure though his accident happened during the massive break between books when he didnt know where he was going with it anymore, he only knew the end (another similarity to lost)

Umberto Eco (Mr Eko?) wrote Foucault's Pendulum which is about guys who work in a publishing house who for entertainment create alternative histories, ultimately they are caught up in the reality of their own fiction

No Ive not read that, I read mostly King really. Its rare I read anything by anone else though I have enjoyed Hardy (I think I read all his novels) and a bit of Koonst (though not alot) I like quite a few of the classic authors such as the Bronte though i have very little time to read anymore and tend only to do it for a bit before going to sleep at night or on journeys. Cant live without a book though
Thank you. Namaste. Good Luck.

the more i think about it, the more plausible it becomes. however i am rather aware that there is no way we will ever bang on predict the ending...its like trying to predict the ending of Harry Potter...loads of speculation but ultimately we will have to wait...(Stephen King & Harry Potter - people are right, i am a bit weird...)
