i'm thinking, don't really like the idea at all but -
I think the government/presidency woteva u call it in america, know about the island and the losties will escape in the end. Season 6 may be about them getting off the island - doubt they're gonna get off it now - and their problems with the government, like swearing them to secrecy about the island etc - and may start trying to get them back on the island so they're unable to get back off the island and say anything about it etc. I think this might happen later on in the show - which could be a load of crap if it did actually end like that.

I definitley think that the "consipiracy" of the island has to be at government level, if Naomi & Lockes dad are correct about a plane being found, then it simply has to be. The largest corporation in the world surely couldnt make that kinda thing up and get away with it.

It would also account for why Jack keeps goin on about not lying any more, and why he is in such a mess. That kind of cover up would be against all of his morals and principles

Im a bit confused, but i think i get the gist.

So you think rather than the private companies, its the government who are pulling the strings.

Im guessing that between the companies involved (Mittelos, Paik, Widmore etc) they probably have more money & power than the government (they probably own some of that too!).I think the companies have more to gain from the island than government.
But...anything is possible...

I don't like the idea of government conspiracies and aliens in Lost. It's been done before with the X Files. I don't think the Lost producers are going to go down that road.

Yeah I think it's just a Widmore conspiracy... the authorites were probably fooled with the fake plane...

I'd LOVE if the O6 announced that it wasnt the real plane
