that the Others were supposed to be coming! Was the black smoke just a way for Danielle to get Turnip head or was it really lit by these Others? No one on the island seems bothered about it now even though that's why they broke into the hatch! Or was their coming to kill everyone just really coming to get Walt? I thought the first episodes of season 2 would be concerned with answering these questions!

The Others did come. They came for Walt and they got him. When Danielle said that the others said they were coming for "the child" everyone thought they meant aaron (turnip head) but actually 'the child' was Walt.

yah you're probably right-thanks for that but Danielle made it out as if the Others would kill everyone (i.e. run, hide or die). Also, even if they were coming for Walt, it doesn't explain the party mood the Lostees have been in! lol.

But as far as they know the Others are stil coming for 'the boy' . They wont have any idea that Walt was infact who they were coming for so yeh really they should stil think thyre coming for the baby !confused lol
actually, when charlie and sayid got back they told everyone that there werent any others. also, only claire, shannon, sun, kate and sayid know about the bottle getting back to the island and shannon only told a few people about seeing so they would all think shes mad anyway. we dont even know that walt was really there.

I've noticed that. The tail-end survivers seem very worried about the others but everyone else is just going about there everyday lives and there only worry is abut the people on the raft.

Thats cos the others have taken 13 of them, there's hardly any of em left, plus there were less of them to start with, so you can imagine it's a lot more scary. Plus they're closer to the others. The losties have only had one of them being 'taken' and Claire was returned. (Or escaped maybe, after all, they did want her back)

I don't know why Jack and Locke have completely forgotten about getting everyone hidden safetly in the hatch. I can see how they want to keep it a secret but... why? I guess it adds to the whole mystery of it all. Also, all of our 40-odd survivors think the rafties are completely fine. Only Shannon and Sun think there's a problem. So everyone should be scared.

The Tailies are more concerned with the Others because they've encountered them and know exactly what they're capable of. The Losties have only known Ethan but Charlie killed him so they haven't had to deal with any of the Others anymore. I think now that Sayid and Charlie have seen the smoke and know that Danielle took Aaron, everyone is kind of calm. I don't think that they feel too threatened by Danielle. I think that the Others want children because they're easy to brainwash. They don't really know better and are easily influenced. Great for recruiting.

She had a baby girl , Alex. We find that out in the season 1 finale when Rousseau comes to the group telling them that the others are coming. About her child she said , " that night , they came and took her. "
maybe the others were spying and because walt went that day they decided to get there boat and go instead of getting him throught the jungle as he left with his dad

The smoke wasn't the other. Rosseau started the fire to get Aaron... but the others did come for Walt.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that it wasn't rousseau that started the fire, and that there were no footprints in the sand around it. I could have misread it though.

Rousseau heard the whispers, and managed to decipher that the Others were coming for 'the boy'. She goes to warn the Losties because they're the only people that she knows who have a boy. She tells them what happened to her when they took her child, that she saw black smoke, and then that night, the Others came and took Alex (Alex IS a girl).
Then the Losties see black smoke, and realise that what Rousseau said was true and that that night the Others would come (and presumably take 'the boy'). They want to hide from the Others so go to get dynamite to blow open the Hatch. Rousseau leaves them and kidnaps Aaron, and takes him to the black smoke so she can meet with the Others and trade 'the boy' for Alex.
However, she gets the wrong boy, and the Others instead take Walt (which is why they weren't at the black smoke, because Walt was on the raft), who they wanted all along...
