thanks for that, just been thinking that button that sawyer pushed with the knife and fork on could have been what dropped the food
|
| |
|

|
the food was dropped by a parachute from a plane. sawyer looks to be in a cage that was used for training animals.
the old folks are losers they cant work computers.

Thanks for that, the cage looks like an experiment to do with classical conditioning or reinforcement. I did it in psychology cant remember much about it though
You have three choices, run, hide or DIE!!!

Hi 666, Looked up Carl/Karl for you in LostPedia: Not sure if we have seen him before though? Karl is a character to appear in Kate's flashbacks. He is described as a handsome 23-year old. Theories He is the character to be played by Rodrigo Santoro. He will also appear in other castaway's flashbacks. He will also appear in scenes off the island, as it has been confirmed that Season 3 will feature 'present day' (ie - Fall 2004 in the show's canon) off-island scenes that are not part of flashbacks. ,,,.,= = NINJA CAT Word On The Street I am in love ♡ Zoanthropy = the delusion that one is an animal The Lost Forum - saved 29 Aug 08

AND.... "Lost" has recruited a new castaway, adding actress Kiele Sanchez to its ensemble, reports Variety. Sanchez joins the cast as a woman named Nikki. The trade says that she might be a love interest for a new character played by Rodrigo Santoro. ,,,.,= = NINJA CAT Word On The Street I am in love ♡ Zoanthropy = the delusion that one is an animal The Lost Forum - saved 29 Aug 08

His name might be Karl at that precise moment, but we don't really know whether that's his real name. This show loves name games. I also think that the 'cage' is for some kind of conditioning/training/psychological purpose but I'm not sure if it's for animals or people. Would a cage really have a button with a knife and fork on it if animals were kept in there? I suppose it could, but it just seems odd. It looked quite old, god knows how long it's been there.

i just watched the clip again and the knife and fork button was inside the cage, i recon the cage is where they used to keep animals, maybe the polar bears, but they escaped?? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ LOST is the best drama on TV ever - roll on next Tuesday!!~*~*~Jack and Kate = Jate 4eva!~*~*~#2 of the JATE in season 3 club – because *Jate is Fate* #6 of the ‘we hate mike for ruining Jate moments’ Fan Club #27 of the D.O.T.S – Disciples of the Superdoc #8 of the F.O.D.T – Followers of Doc’s Tattoos #25 of the Evangeline Lilly Fan Club #7 of the C.O.K. – Criminals of Kate – ‘We got your back’ #19 of the FOS – Fellowship of Sawyer – he’s a complex guy sweetheart! #21 of the LOC – Lovers of Charlie – ‘guys were are we?’ #4 of the DOH –Dudes of Hurley - he’s not so good around blood! but its not in the same cage as carl
|

i think Karl must be one of the Tallies. If not he is might even be an Other that they decided shouldnt be let lose. Or maybe his only there to gather information from Sawyer and its just a ploy!

I was thinking that the whole cage may be a test, the two of them can only get out if they work together, they have to weigh down certain levers and help each other out... Like say to open the door you have to push down on the foot pedal in Sawyers cage and push that lever at the same time, only you can't reach both at the same time so you need to weigh down the foot pedal with something, like a big rock... But I think Sawyer would take advantage of Karl and leg it first chance he gets, maybe he gets out of his small cage with Karl's help only to find that they are both in a bigger one that they need to work together to escape...

It's actually Operant condtitioning and the person who did most of the work was B F Skinner and the cage that Sawyer looks to be is commonly called a "Skinner cage". It looks to be an experiment in "Aversive conditioning" because pushing the knife and fork button results in a punishment. However it's not as simple as that because it looks like there are other facets to the experimental cage ie the footplate which may ilicit another response if pressed in conjunction with the button. It's all very "Dharma initiative" anyway!
