So in Series 5 we are going to get mislead!!! I agree that Jack is very important. What I'm trying to work out why the island let him go home in the first place. Maybe there is something he needs to do back home first?

But Jack was ill (juliette saved him!). It was Richard who made the deal to let him go (then when Jack mentioned it to Ben he just agreed). So it was Richard who said he could go, does he have the authority? Maybe its because they know he will go back. …I’ll be waiting…..with a gun & a pack of sandwiches..Ben's Plan Since Series 2..

Hmmm I'm not too sure about that being Richard's decision... Ben must have known about it somehow, everything is always his idea...

...Outburst duly noted Lizzie I wonder wether our reaction to Jack was forseen. Hes handsom (not my scene, but you have to admit he is good looking) & a doctor, so you would automatically assume that we would gravitiate towards him as the hero. Maybe they underestimated the power of sarcasm & being hot (Sawyer), being too cute & Scottish (Des), being handsom & able to snap peoples necks with your feet (Sayid), or just being....driven, uncompramising, sarcastic...& cute (i think) (Ben). Hero's aint what they used to be are they? …I’ll be waiting…..with a gun & a pack of sandwiches..Ben's Plan Since Series 2..

I think your right about Jack being seen as a natural leader by the viewers. However I think they knew what they were doing when they put Sawyer in there. Saywer was meant to draw attention away from Jack( not for me personally but that's just me ).

Yeah Jack was definitely the leader, as the Doc he was the one in charge of the post crash rescue effort... He cant accept someone else being the leader... and would probably rather eat Vincent then recognise Locke as being in command.... ...even so I still love him! minus that horrible beard!

All of the interesting characters are seen as the support characters to me. I like Jack but he isn't as interesting as Des, Sayid, Eko, Ben or Locke.

Considering killing him off in the pilot makes you wonder what his relevance to the whole show is. I personally still think he's very important though. I'd love to know how Lost would have been without him. What did they have in mind back then?

Well if they originally meant for Kate to lead the survivors then she must have some relavence... I dont see it though! I think I'm right in saying the only connection she has to the island is the horse we saw in season 1. If they planned to kill Jack off, do you think that having Jack's father in it was an afterthought? Not originally intended?

hey omen just read idea. Nice, I like the idea of a double bluff on jack by his father, Rather like Locke being made seem he wasn't good enough with Alpert. The more they are told no, the more they want to prove people they can achieve what they want if they don't know it yet. Jacob will have some relation to jack, i'm sure of it THE REAL DEAL BABY cover me in peanut butter and call me better than Charlie darling

Kate doesn't seem to have any connection to the island as you say Bombie except for the horse. However she is the one who is raising Aaron ( for now ). Even if they had killed off Jack in the pilot I think they would still have Christian. He has a connection to Clare and Aaron.

Cheers Blackie I just think its too much of a co-inky-dink to reveal all the family connections, and then for it not to mean anything. Especially with there being that many members of one family. I love a good old fasioned double bluff! …I’ll be waiting…..with a gun & a pack of sandwiches..Ben's Plan Since Series 2..
