An interesting thing I noticed in the post I made about Carlton & Lindhoffs interview.
They stated that the show inregards red sox was to reflect the time as it occurs so that when we look back in years certain aspects make sense. With this in mind I took the Christmas eve Desmond phones on ie 24/12/2004 and subtracted the 94 days that have occurred which gives us the day Lost aired ie September 22 2004.
This is very interesting as it would show that they are trying to keep it exact as possible so that they are running in real time from when they first aired and have been keeping it in sequence consciously.
The episode with Desmond seems to highlight that it may be the subconscious mind of characters that drift from past to future mentally but remain in boy form where they are even though they co exist in both ie Minkowski who was strapped to the bed but on a ferris wheel.
The islands timeline is possibly exactly the same as the outside world but you have to pass through a time field to get onto it which alters your perception of where you are and when. Like with Desmond when he thought he was in 1996 but was actually in the present. He was there physically but not mentally.
The name "wormhole" comes from an analogy used to explain the phenomenon. If a worm is travelling over the skin of an apple, then the worm could take a shortcut to the opposite side of the apple's skin by burrowing through its center, rather than travelling the entire distance around, just as a wormhole traveler could take a shortcut to the opposite side of the universe through a topologically nontrivial tunnel.
In other words they are in real time but you must drift in time to access the island by traversing the timeline. That would explain why it cant be seen. Ben” God cant even see this place”
The possibility of traversable wormholes in general relativity was first demonstrated by Kip Thorne and his graduate student Mike Morris in a 1988 paper; for this reason, the type of traversable wormhole they proposed, held open by a spherical shell of exotic matter, is referred to as a Morris-Thorne wormhole.
Later, other types of traversable wormholes were discovered as allowable solutions to the equations of general relativity, including a variety analyzed in a 1989 paper by Matt Visser, in which a path through the wormhole can be made in which the traversing path does not pass through a region of exotic matter. A type held open by negative mass cosmic strings was put forth by Visser in collaboration with Cramer et al.,[2], in which it was proposed that such wormholes could have been naturally created in the early universe.
The black rock is the exotic matter I would assume in question and therefore I would assume that this is what gives the island its special properties in regards timelines and the ability of those on island leaving it to experience “ the sickness” ie jumps in time subconciously.
Exotic matter is a hypothetical concept of particle physics. It covers any material which violates one or more classical conditions or is not made of known baryonic particles. Such materials would possess qualities like negative mass or being repelled rather than attracted by gravity. It is used in certain speculative theories, such as on the construction of wormholes. The closest known real representative of exotic matter is a region of pseudo-negative pressure density produced by the Casimir effect.
Einstein-Rosen bridges are bridges between areas of space that can be modeled as vacuum solutions to the Einstein field equations by combining models of a black hole and a white hole. This solution was deemed inadequate as time pinched and not even light would make it through but what if that is what Dharma were working on and found a way through Einsteins procedure.
“ two sides, one black one white”
In his famous work on Special Relativity in 1905, Albert Einstein predicted that when two clocks were brought together and synchronised, and then one was moved away and brought back, the clock which had undergone the traveling would be found to be lagging behind the clock which had stayed put. Einstein considered this to be a natural consequence of Special Relativity, not a paradox as some suggested, and in 1911, he restated and elaborated on this result in the following form:
If we placed a living organism in a box ... one could arrange that the organism, after any arbitrary lengthy flight, could be returned to its original spot in a scarcely altered condition, while corresponding organisms which had remained in their original positions had already long since given way to new generations. For the moving organism the lengthy time of the journey was a mere instant, provided the motion took place with approximately the speed of light. (in Resnick and Halliday, 1992)
Consider a space ship traveling from Earth to the nearest star system outside of our solar system: a distance d = 4.45 light years away, at a speed v = 0.866c (i.e., 86.6 percent of the speed of light, relative to the Earth). The Earth-based mission control reasons about the journey this way (for convenience in this thought experiment the ship is assumed to immediately attain its full speed upon departure): the round trip will take t = 2d / v = 10.28 years in Earth time (i.e. everybody on earth will be 10.28 years older when the ship returns). The flow of time on the ship and aging of the travelers during their trip will be slowed by the factor , the reciprocal of the Lorentz factor. In this case and the travelers will have aged only 0.5×10.28 = 5.14 years when they return.
So here we have what looks like is going on in Lost, a continuation of the theory of relativity and the use of said theory to exploit wormholes and time travel subconsciously. Minowski was the main mathematician in regards the mathematic aspect of relativity theory.
If a pair of twins are born on the day the ship leaves, and one goes on the journey while the other stays on Earth, they will meet again when the traveler is 5.14 years old and the stay-at-home twin is 10.28 years old. The calculation illustrates the usage of the phenomenon of length contraction and the experimentally verified phenomenon of time dilation to describe and calculate consequences and predictions of Einstein's special theory of relativity.
So here we see how they are experiencing time differently. The trip through the electromagnetic field has caused them to experience time differently but in reality it passes the same. Might explain why Sayid asked about them leaving at dusk and arriving at midday but Frank just looked puzzled at him.
Now, how would each twin observe the other during the trip? Or, if each twin always carried a clock indicating his age, what time would each see in the image of their distant twin and his clock? The solution to this observational problem can be found in the relativistic Doppler effect. The frequency of clock-ticks which one sees from a source with rest frequency frest is
when the source is moving directly away (a reduction in frequency; "red-shifted"). When the source is coming directly back, the observed frequency is higher ("blue-shifted") and given by
This combines the effects of time dilation (reduction in source frequency due to motion by factor ε) and the Doppler shift in received frequency by factor (1 v/c)-1, which would apply even for velocity-independent clock rates. For the example case above where v / c = 0.866, the high and low frequencies received are 3.732 and 0.268 times the rest frequency. That is, both twins would see the images of their sibling aging at a rate only 0.268 times their own rate, or expressed the other way, they would both measure their own aging rate as being 3.732 that of their twin. In other words, each twin will see that for each hour that passes for them, their twin experiences just over 16 minutes.
Looking at it this way we must assume that this is where Faradays frequency of 2342 comes from with an oscillation of 11. It is this that depicts said time difference .
Minkowskis opening quote at a german assembly in regards his space time theory:
The views of space and time which I wish to lay before you have sprung from the soil of experimental physics, and therein lies their strength. They are radical. Henceforth space by itself, and time by itself, are doomed to fade away into mere shadows, and only a kind of union of the two will preserve an independent reality.
Minkowski believed that light passing through material with have a great electromagnetic force. The island being that material enhanced by the black rock which is our exotic material would explain the sky turning blue in a highly propelled and unstable band of electromagnetism.
Overall
1. They are in real time
2. The islands black rock provides the basis for time travel through relativity
3. The doppler effect shows that the ageing process would be different with the time jump eg Richard Alpert. Also explains the rabbits in the orchid not being able to see each other as they have no constant in both past and future.
4. Special relativity by Einstein shows the time lag in regards the clocks Faraday has as Einstein clearly showed that the clock doing the travelling would lag in time. The payload was 31 minutes off but was the clock doing the travelling hence the time lag. Also Faradays watch had the same time lag due to the fact he too travelled through the field surrounding the island.
