Well we all know that the black smoke is the monster. and for some reason the others make black smoke before they come, but in season1 when sayid and charlie found the black smoke they were no foodprints... so did the others do it or was the black smoke actually the monster??? and the others lit a fire so the monster would go to it and they could go through the jungle to do there busniess? just a thought
i dont think the black smoke monster is controlled by the others.
They wouldnt need to kidnap the tailies good people and kids to supposedly get pastt he black smoke since the black smoke monster doesnt go for good people.
I have mentioned in a previous post that the black smoke monster maybe controlled by walt as he may have the psychic powers to do so, hence why the others kidnapped him.
A theory that i ahve is that the black smoke monster is a seucirty system which is protecting somehting which is underneath the island, and which the others want to get to.
They kidnapped walt knowing of his psychic abilities so that he can control the black smoke monster to unguard the 'underworld'.

If the walt controlling the monster is right then maby walt was thinking about the pilot and thinking he was dead?? so the monster killed him?? i also beleave that the monster does take other shapes like the Eagle we see in season1 on the last episode and im sure it says "Hurley"...lol
The black smoke monsters agenda seems different from The Others...
I think that was the smoke that appeared to Eko & Locke as Yemi (remember Locke has never seen Yemi)...

It is still to debatable as to how the others lit all those torches, well I've seen all of series 2 and **Alex tells Michael that Mr Friendly was doing this to make them frightened so its all for show**
i think they are alot more sophicated than people think, they would only tell their own what they want them to know not the whole lot. they will have weapons and such, but why use the disguises i do not know. and why henry is so bothered about it at the end i do not know.
