Hmmm I've been reading a lot of opinions about him but they all seem to differ from my own! So I'm gona throw mine in anyway!
1)I dont think Richard is dead 2)I don't think Richard is really old or has a eternal youth-face!
I think he just time travels. I think he time traveled back to see Locke when he was a kid, as he obviously knew the future! He does age as he changes from when we first see him when he meets Ben in the forest to what he is now.
He just time travels to where ever and whenever he wants!
Oh well... that's what I think! Feel free to comment..

..its a fair point bombie...he could just be flitting about. I think they have made him deliberatly abiguous (like they did with Ben), it could lead to some wierd revelation...or just another dead end! Was Bens remark about "remembering birthdays" just a joke..?
He is very strange though...i quite like him...

I agree in that I don't think Richard is dead. He travels in time off island.
On island however I don't know what is going on with this guy. He doesn't appear to age to me at all. Before the purge Ben walked out of the jungle 30+ years older and Richard looked exactly the same. Are the other " hostiles " that were with him able to do the same?
But i do think he is much older than he looks, i think he was the leader before Ben, so he has been knocking around for a while...but he still looks fresh as a daisy...hmmmmm, fishy!
And he does still look good in that eyeliner (Dharma drop i presume!)...thats just the way he rolls!

Agreed - not dead. But I do think that he is VERY old what with the birthday comments from ben and his calm all knowing knowledge. Its an interesting point about whether the others are also baby faced and ageless

Hmmmm, they have been quiet enough about Richard to make me interested in his character, i think there is definitly more to come from him. As to his age, we just cant tell, was he Dharma, is he from the Black Rock, is he one of the original inhabitants who built the statue! (which nobody talks about ).

I wonder what happened to the rest of the statue. Earthquake, volcano eruption or something wierd?
Yeah maybe they built the foot then couldnt be bothered finishing it.... only gave it 4 toes
