So as I discussed last season Dark/exotic matter is the reason for the island moving. Glad I got something right, god knows I have posted enough theories but now I am still confused, so I looked up a little more and I am going to lay it out simply for everyone to understand.
If the Casimir effect is in operation it acts like a vacuum. This was shown by the after effect when the island disappeared as if a suction had taken place almost as if it was sucked underwater.
Dark/exotic matter is believed to occupy the empty space between the neutrons that make up our galaxy.
I believe that this empty space is where the others reside and they have found a way to interact between that space and ours. This is where the whispers come in as we hear voices as the others come through the electromagnetic field that seperates them.
Think of the finale when the others are about to attack keamy and the whispers are heard. One minute they aren’t there and the next they are. Now you could say that they came across the island but if you go back to season two where the comment is made about no footprints which is further shown when ben lands in the desert.
They manipulate the time space continuum for their own ends. Ben was spat out after moving the island. The others merely use it to move about the island undetected. Like when Harper Stanhope appears in the jungle from nowhere.
Christian Shepherd does this continuously and it makes you wonder if he was on the list and the island resurrected him for its needs. Like when you hear the whisper and he appears to Michael to tell him he can go now. Also when ben as a child first meets Alpert you hear the whispers first.
Charlie appearing, mr Eko playing chess even if we don’t see him. This is where Hurley is important in the way that he can see the dead who operate within this empty space created by exotic matter. Like when he could see Jacobs cabin. Jacob is stuck as has been said in a different time but not really. He is merely stuck in the other place and is manipulating the others to be freed so he can once again operate within both spaces. For some reason he needs certain people to do this. This leads me to believe that Jacob could set to be revealed as a character from the show who is unaware who he is due to not being conscious in our space. In the other space he is and that is why one of the people on the list will be him.
Locke under some form of prophecy is the man to return this person to the island to facilitate this prophecy and that is his importance. Like when Christian speaks for Jacob. He acts as a spokesman. Did someone acts as a spokesman when Ben spoke to him or did he merely hear but not see him as Ben had a special power. A point I want to note on ben hear is his you do remember birthdays line to Alpert. Bens father used to forget his birthdays. Think about it! Ben has what it takes but does locke is his point that he asks Richard. Ben has killed for the cause but he knows locke wont. He reminds Alpert what he has done as it was when his father yet again forgot his birthday that the purge occurred. The phrase is a show of power.
This I believe will come full circle and that Ben really will be the chosen one and not locke and is why he is driven to helping the others get back to the island. Why unlike widmore he cares for the island and why he cried nearly as he turned that wheel as if leaving the island was like leaving a child. Why should he help Jack etc after all he does say I hope you are happy now Jacob before turning the wheel.
Richard is dead and why he doesnt age but he is a chosen one that operates between both spaces like Christian etc. He is in the hierarchy of Jacobs team.

Minkowski believed that light passing through material with have a great electromagnetic force. The island being that material enhanced by the black rock which is our exotic material would explain the sky turning blue in a highly propelled and unstable band of electromagnetism.

So when we saw the purple sky before was this the island moving due to the numbers not being punched in?

A closed timelike curve can be created if a series of such light cones are set up so as to loop back on themselves, so it would be possible for an object to move around this loop and return to the same place and time that it started. An object in such an orbit would repeatedly return to the same point in spacetime if it stays in free fall. Returning to the original spacetime location would be only one possibility; the object's future light cone would include spacetime points both forwards and backwards in time, and so it should be possible for the object to engage in time travel under these conditions.

I dont think Richard is dead though.. i think he must have another means of travelling off the island.. he interacts with everyone and doesnt speak spookily like all the other dead people... but I dunno, I have no idea!

Im in complete agreement about Ben (and they are not entirely for the reasons people think...but it does help.. ). Ben has given EVERYTHING he has for the island, he has killed (anyone who was in the way), defended it, & sacrificed anything he had to keep it safe (including his "daughter"...im sure there is some biblical reference to it, somewhere).
As you pointed out, there are things Locke WONT do (kill his father...even after all he had done) or let the freighter explode (although Ben did say that his feelings had overtaken him...probably for the first time in a loooooong time).
Ben is a realist, he understands the way the island works, but more importantly how the world around it works. He knows that people will do anything to own or control the island, so he will do anything to stop it, even to the point of never seening it again (personally, i though that was the most upsetting part of the whole finale), like you say, watching Ben turn that wheel & leave was like watching him leave a child.....now THAT was sad....

I wonder if this may be another test of his leadership....maybe if he gets rid of Widmore and rounds up all the Losties....he get to go back...?

ben always has a plan and despite helping them to get back you can be assured it is also for personal reasons too. a great character.

Alpert may have another way of travelling off island but another reason i think he is dead is the whispers also when he appeared to ben in the forest and the non aging thing. He died at that age so will forever look like that.

I agree...Ben does want back on the island, and the Losties are important to the island...two birds, one stone!
As you say...he ALWAYS has a plan (imagine the rate his mind ticks over at!! )

As for Alpert....veeeeery wierd man. He hasnt aged a second (Others seem to age slower, but they still age)....dead is a possibility...or another face of Jacob....

Yh, I like this Theory - it really makes sense - with the Whispers and everything. It's also convinced me that Richard MUST be Dead, and like Christian.

Hmm, just thought it was odd that the balloon was sponsored by Widmore & Hurleys company. Maybe Hurley is being used & he doesnt know it. The Hospital was Dharma too...have they been brainwashing him....
