Why does Sawyer call Lcoke Jack and Hurley, Hoss?

Personally i dont think the good/bad person thing the others have mentioned is anything to do with what that person has done or said in their lifes in the past as such .
I dont think its a judgement on their character ...i think its more to do with thier compatability or usefullness to the others .
The "good" people are simply ones they need for one purpose or another yet to be revealed and the "bad" are ones that have no use to them or what they are doing .
As said above all of them have done bad things and all of them have done good things to a certain extent ....its more likely that the good and bad references are simply a sort of code for people the others need or want to question and people they dont .

Surely if their going by choices then they must understand their reasons behind it. So what Michael did could be explained by wanting to get his son back.

Also, what would be the marker for being good? If their catholic then Claire going to be bad for having sex without marriage. If we are going by the 7 sins then Hurley is possibly Lucifer himself.

i think what locke said to alot of the losties about this being a new life on the islands has a great importance, what i mean is . . . i think that the others base their good and bad people on the way they have reacted on the island and notthing else. i mean they no nothing about the surviours of the crash untill they send in someone to act as a crash surviour.

actually losttom, i never said being in the republican guard made him a bad person, i said being a torturer made him bad. as i previously said 'choises.' Regardless of what nation is actioning it torture is a bad! I'm not denying there are reasons for making their choises but it is a choise none the less.

Thats my name!

Jack is another name for John (though I dont remember hearing James better known as "Sawyer" calling him that) and "Hoss" was the fat guy in Bonanza I believe. He also calls Hurley "Barbar" (the cartoon elephant) amongst many other things with reference to his size

Didnt see the episode of WHY Kate ended up killing those people then? The first guy was her step dad who was beating hell out of her mum, he was also trying to grab her and who knows what abuse she as well as her mum had suffered before then, it seems quite alot actually.

For its own good, she didnt think she could give it any kind of decent life on her own. Originally she had intended to bring it up with the father if you remember. She was trying to be responsible and she also was struggling to come to terms with giving the baby away. She wanted what was best for it and trying very hard to put her own feelings to one side to do that. I think that makes her a pretty damned good person if you ask me

Im not sure about there having being much choice for Iraqis anyway in joining the national guard. I think they still had consrciption that meant you were legally obliged to do it before a certain age or faced jail. This is still happening in European countries so its reasonable to suspect it may have been the case under Sadaam Hussein

Yeah but you said torturers for the iraqis. It may be choice but what are the reasons behind it?
Was Sayid torturing Sawyer justified in season 1? IF the motives behind it are good then surely that has to be taken into the account for good and bad people. I think your on to something with their choices but how do the others criteria the choices?
Religion?
A list of good against a list of bad, more ticks than the bad and your good?

Just that every badside can be justified in a way for it to be good or understandable.

It still depends on your reasons though. Like when he tortured Sawyer

i personnaly think that the others base their good and bad theory on the actions that the losties make on the island, and not their religion (or religious actions.)

OK then the reason that I have heard for The Others to need good people is *because they need to get past the monster and only good people are up to the test* Surely if The Others were good then they could do it themselves.

Guess it does depend what is meant by 'good' which we may be completely misinterpreting !

Beyond that I know very little as I haven't even seen all of series two, let alone know anything about series three lol
