I have been reading through many previous threads and there has been some amazing thoughts, theories and total way out there speculation well like most people on this forum can not wait to see the final of season 2.
I was thinking about what someone said on another thread about the island possibly being invisible in some way and I remembered about the Philadelphia experiment.

This is where they used magnets to repel mines etc from ships but it was said that the ship dissapeared and reapeared in a different location.
This could mean that the island is in another dimension when the magnetic field is applied by the generator or whatever it is in the SWAN. which could explain the whispering That has been heard.
Anyone any Thoughts on this or is it wild speculation on my part.

Like the Bermuda Triangle? If this really works, doesn't that explain the disappearance of ships in that area?

The island just appeared just as the boat passed it could also explain how the plane from Nigeria was picked up. The other people like the balloon all in the same way.
This island could be picking all sorts of artefacts on the it’s journey through the dimension.
All similar to the Philadelphia experiments which when the ship reappeared it had actually moved in location and that was not though it’s own engines either!
The island could of picked up the foot from Atlantis the bones that the losties found could be that of US aviator Amelia Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan disappear over the Pacific Ocean during a circumnavigational flight in 1937. during their attempt her plane might be found in later episodes of lost we will never know.

Back to the Magnets. remember when you said that there could be a railgun of sorts on the island. Well i thought i would lay down some more questions that have still to be answered.

1) The Railgun...the prodomenant idea was for it to be used to redirect meteors right? remeber in the episode that Hurley bought that Chicken shack...It was hit by a meteor...linked with the unlucky numbers maybe?

2) The Swan...now i know this has been discussed to death but heres a fresh look on things...maybe...The Swan was an Electromechanical station. Now when Locke did his stupid computer rampage thing and the Swan went all out of control...well the counter was crumpled inwards...now after some strong talks with an old Physics teacher of mine i diescovered that the original idea of it being gravitational is WRONG. It was definitely just magnetism.

3) What about the Gravitational idea? Well when the sawn was being ripped apart we saw all metal object being dragged towards the generator. Afterwards Locke and some extent Des were starting to move towards it. The possible explaination could be that when the "time rift" opened a strong gravitational feild would be produced...yet again thanks to an old physics teacher of mine. Could explain things.

4) And finaly this one. The out of phase theory. I will leave you torry to re post the link for the Phili Experiment if you want

This would explain the bright purple glow that we saw in the sky.

I had thought a lot about the Gravity verses Magnets I still think that both were at play.
It was like a big Gyroscopic device turning though motors which are around a magnetic field.
At my work we deal with electronic gyros which are accelerometers but in the early years they use gyros with motors for some of the tools we used for directional equipment. These devices have been used in Helicopters Airplanes and even Ships to keep the compass at an absoulute.
In the wireline side of the oil industy you could say it is just a complcated compass but is it used to steady and floating Island which is pure sciencefiction? IMO
